Cheap & Easy Ways to Remix Your Wardobe

Cheap and Easy Ways to Remix Your Wardrobe
Getting stuck in a rut with your clothes? Always feeling like you have a ton of clothes but nothing to wear? Maybe it’s time to remix and revamp your wardrobe. Now I always thought that this meant getting a whole new wardrobe but with city living and limited closet space, I know that you don’t need a shopping spree to remix your wardrobe (as nice as that would be but ya know). With some simple steps you can revamp your wardrobe and even make some money out of the deal!
1) Do Laundry
Before pruning anything, make sure that all your clothes are clean all at the same time. How could you know if that shirt goes perfectly with that skirt if they have always been in different laundry rotations? Also once all your clothes are clean and put away, you will have a true sense of how many clothes you have and what categories are overflowing and which others are lacking.

2) Clean It Out

Let’s be honest, how many of you have a closet full of clothes but tend to wear the same thing over and over?

Clean out your closet of all the things you never wear, doesn’t fit you, or are damaged. Try to be brutally honest with yourself and set guidelines. Have I worn this in the past year? Two years? Does this fit me right now or do I tell myself it will fit sometime in the future? If you pretend to be Stacy and Clinton, the process can be fun (or maybe its just me?)
Sell what you can to consignment and second hand stores like Plato’s Closet or Buffalo Exchange and donate the rest. I find that a weight lifts off of me once those bags of clothes are gone.
3) Organize
Re organize your closet in a way that works for you.
Maybe you want all your work clothes together and weekend clothes separate, maybe you color coordinate. Find an organizational system that actually works for you.
I like to have my clothes separated by type: work out clothes, tee shirts, long sleeve, button ups, pants, skirts, dresses, etc. This allows me to be able to look at the weather or my plans for the day and dress accordingly with ease. I have also organized in a way where I can easily see all the categories in their entirety.
4) Store Seasonally
Store the clothes that are off season separate and away from your closet. This will help with any overcrowding you may have in your closet. Storing those wool sweaters in the summer months also gives your clothes some extra space to breath (therefore making them last longer) and will make things look less cluttered. When you can actually see what you are working with, there is a higher chance that you will be more creative with what you already have.
I store off season clothes in plastic totes that fit under the bed. Then it is one less thing that I need to worry about finding storage space for in the house.
5) Buy EITHER Accent or Neutral
If you feel the need to buy something new, buy one meaningful piece that you will get a lot of use. Once you have cleaned, organized, and stored, look at your wardrobe decide if you see mostly monochrome or a variety of colors. If your wardrobe is nearly all one color, pick an accessory in a complimentary color to your wardrobe. If you see a variety of color, pick a neutral color accessory. This way that one piece can be mixed and matched to a majority of your wardrobe and you get more bang for your stylish buck. What is your favorite way to remix your wardrobe?
Share with me below as I am always looking for new ways to work with what I already have!
