Oh winter travel! Love it or hate it, it’s something we all do at one point or another. But for some reason, packing for winter travel is always a bigger ordeal than summer travel. With all the boots, sweaters, scarves, and all around layers, it tends to take a bit more planning. However, when I travel in the winter months, whether for a weekend ski trip to Whistler or for an extended stay with family, there are a handful of essential things I always have with me.
First off, layers. Whether in the car or plane, I always get cold and need an extra something to keep me warm. This generally involves a cozy sweater that layers perfectly with my travel outfit along with an extra large scarf for additional warmth and to act as a blanket for any unexpected naps 😉
Another important part of staying warm, which is key in my winter travels, are cozy socks and gloves. Cold toes never leaves anyone happy and I am allergic to frozen fingers. For that reason I pack plenty of wool blend socks, several pairs of gloves, and a package of hand and toe warmers. They are perfect to pop in a car glove compartment or the pocket of your weekender bag.
As far as beauty products, winter beauty essentials are all about adding moisture. I go all in with the hand lotions, face lotions, and lip balms as I tend to dry out like a raisin. Healthy skin is the foundation to any beautiful makeup look, so be sure that your skin stays moisturized by treating it well from the inside as well as out. As far as winter makeup essentials during the holiday travel frenzy, I like to stick with a holiday red lip and fresh face with plenty of lashes. Sticking with a simple look during travel cuts back on what you have to carry across country with you.
Now what about the travel bag to carry around all these winter travel essentials? My new winter travel sidekick is my Vera Bradley weekender bag. It comes in a variety of colors and is seriously spacious. My Weekender bag actually has the perfect amount of space to be my all-in-one weekender bag. It holds a pair of boots, stacks of chunky knits, blanket scarves, denim, base layers, and all sorts of toiletries that this girl can’t live without PLUS my laptop and camera. It’s the modern day Mary Poppins bag!
When Mr.A and I used to road trip all over the West coast, I often ended up with some of my things in a couple of canvas tote bags in addition to my main bag but luckily now that I have this weekender bag those days are over!
