Spring Capsule Wardrobe

Spring Capsule WardrobeWith spring finally arrived it is time to get serious about our spring and summer wardrobes. ThredUP reached out and asked me to share my top picks for a spring capsule wardrobe with you. If you haven’t heard, capsule wardrobes are the latest trend in minimalist living. You basically pare down your wardrobe to around 40 pieces (not including undergarments) and only switch it up every three months. So basically a mini wardrobe where less is more.

If you already have a capsule wardrobe (or are planning on starting one), you will want to add these five pieces into your spring rotation:
DVF go everywhere dressNeutrals. Let’s be real, if you only have 40 pieces to choose from, sticking to a single color palette is a necessity. Neutrals like white, black, and browns are your best friends in a capsule wardrobe. However for the spring and summer months try your best to incorporate more cream, grey, and tan to lighten up your looks.

5 pieces you need in your spring wardrobeA go-everywhere dress. This is a dress that can be dressed up enough for the office with heels and a blazer but throw on some flats and a denim jacket (both also capsule wardrobe staples) and you are ready for weekend errands. I picked up this lovely DVF dress from thredUP, which is the latest and greatest way to shop consignment, for under $50. From the state of my dress when it arrived, I would have never known this dress was pre-loved as it looked brand new!

shoes for springThick heeled sandals. This is by far the hottest trend in shoes for spring and summer. I’ve shared a whole host of affordable (to no so affordable) options here but make sure to check out thredUP’s selection as they will be the most affordable of all!

OUTFIT #1: DRESS: DVF c/o // JACKET: similar here // SHOES: similar here // LIPSTICK: Revlon ‘Honey’ // SUNGLASSES: ZeroUV

spring capsul wardrobeDenim and plenty of it. Denim is always a great staple piece as it plays with so many other colors and patterns. In a capsule wardrobe I would encourage including several denim pieces. I love a denim skirt, like this one from thredUP, but I also love white jeans for spring and summer. Plus a denim jacket is also a must for the warmer months!

Sticking to a classic color like red or navy blue will help any statement color mix and match with more looks within the capsule.

5 piece you need in your spring capsule wardrobeStripes. Just because your wardrobe is smaller and (most likely) neutral centric doesn’t mean you cant wear prints. Just like this little red handbag, stripes play nice with many other pieces, skirts, pants, blazers, you name it. Sticking to a black and white color scheme will also help one or two striped pieces stretch a little bit further in a capsule wardrobe.

I am a huge fan of the drop waist dress – a long sleeve dress can be such a key transitional piece! Plus the denim skirt and striped tee is so on point.

  11. Love both looks. I tried a work capsule last spring and I got bored with it, but a capsule can also be a great way to challenge yourself with your wardrobe.

Thanks for reading! I haven’t tried it yet but I’m thinking I will do a full capsule for spring. I can see how it could get boring but I can also see where it would be great for my wallet to have a solid three months without shopping!

I have actually tried the capsule wardrobe a couple of times before and sometimes it is a good idea and sometimes is not. But like you I have stuck/followed similar rules: lots of neutral and denim plus some classic breton stripes and a colorful purse or two. These days I cannot stop adding bags and shoes to my wardrobe. I have especially bought some bright-colored bags and chunky heeled shoes. Love your on-trend sandals and that DVF dress is stunning too. The second outfit though is so classic, preppy, classy and effortless, something I would wear for Spring or Summer. =)
