This has to be my most requested post! Fishtail crown braids also known as milkmaid braids are a great way to get your hair out of your face and go one more day sans washing while still receiving tons of compliments.
- Start with your hair in a center part and separate all your hair into two even sections.
- Working with one section at a time, split that section into an additional two sections. You should now have three total. One on one side of your head and two on the other.
- Taking small sections from the outside of each section, cross each over to the other side all the way down the braid. Side note: if you are a visual learner or I’m not making any sense, just watch this video on how to fishtail braid.
- Before tying off your braid with an elastic, pull each loop of the braid gently to make the braid look thicker. Once you’ve pulled your braid apart enough, secure it with an elastic and start the process on the other side.
- Once you have two fishtail braids, one on either side, cross and pin them atop your head making sure the ends are tucked under.
For those of you who wear extensions, this is another style that you can easily add and hide clip ins for added bulk and volume in your braids.

Thanks Jennie! Glad you liked the post!
I love braids so much but I can never do them myself! I’ve watched countless youtube videos and looked at so many tutorials and I never can get it right. I can do a basic braid but nothing beyond that. Is there any advice you can give me so that I can learn it?
Practice, practice, practice! I honestly used to practice on myself everyday before showering until I got it. If you have a friend who likes to have their hair played with helps as well. Most styles can be recreated with 3-strand braids as well
Such a beautiful hairstyle! Love it!
Thanks Cara!
This look is so pretty, I can’t wait to try it out!
