As I’m getting married in a month (eek!) and I want to look my best so I wanted to find the best. For a color touch up and fresh cut, I went to essensuals London Seattle salon for a morning of pampering. Little did I know it would turn out to be such a learning experience.
Owned by identical twin brothers Robert and Jason Townsend, essensuals London Seattle is the latest and greatest in the Seattle salon scene. The brothers grew up in the hair business and, while recently moved to Seattle from southern California, have worked with some of the biggest A-list names in the business. I met with Robert for my color and upon meeting and chatting hair with Robert you can instantly see his passion and knowledge of hair. You could say that Robert dropped a serious hair knowledge bomb on me!
With just a look at my hair, Robert pinpointed some of my bad hair habits including long hot showers, over conditioning, and an addiction to the curling iron along with some other startling revelations about my hair elastics of choice for my daily runs. But being the professional that he is, while he showed me all the breakage in my hair Robert also gave me the solution. Turns out the solution is one part Olaplex and the rest simple at-home fixes.
I need to take a minute to gush about Olaplex! After six odd years as a bottle blonde, I have grown accustomed to the look and feel of dry, fried, damaged hair. It comes with the territory of being a bleach blonde, right? Well no more! Robert suggested we try an Olaplex two part treatment with my color as it helps the hair repair while going through the color process. I have never been more impressed! Rather than feeling dry and brittle, my tresses felt healthier than ever before. But the most impressive part is that the feeling has lasted! This isn’t just a short term solution but an amazing fix for years worth of damage.
There are of course simple ways to care for you hair at home, which Robert and stylist Megan shared. Firstly is to wash your hair with warm to cool water. Just like hot tools, hot water causes heat damage and leads to damaged and frizzy hair. Robert recommends to wash your hair first then clip it up out of the way of the shower jets as you turn up the heat. And on the subject of washing your hair, consider the product that you’re using and just how much of it. Both suggest that no more than a quarter sized amount of either shampoo or conditioner and if you have fine hair like me, no more than a dime sized amount. Finally consider where you are using your product. Both hammered home the lesson that shampoo is for your scalp and conditioner is for your ends (as if your hair was in a pony tail) and that is that.
Stylist Megan Heinson gave me a fresh cut and she too impressed me with her knowledge of hair. After examining my hair and asking me a few questions about my lifestyle, she was able to determine the best cut to accentuate my eyes and bone structure while taking into play my fine thin hair. She also gave me a step by step tutorial on how to recreate my salon style at home, from what products to use to just how to blow dry and hold the curling iron.It was a great pleasure getting to have such talent not only work on my hair but teach me so much about my most important accessory! Remember, hair is the one accessory you can’t take off so it’s important to treat it right.
