Happy Monday loves! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Today we are tackling a style challenge close to my heart, nautical style! Living in Seattle means that life on the water is just part of the deal. I grew up gaining my sea legs on my father’s boat and have always lived near large bodies of water, whether it’s the Hudson or the Puget Sound.
Part of living in seafaring towns means embracing a certain amount of nautical inspired style. But what about my babes that are landlocked? Do you know the basics of nautical style? Well today I want to share those with you so no matter where you live you can have perfect nautical style! Let’s get to it!
Embrace vertical stripes
Stripes and nautical style go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly! If you’ve got a stripe shirt or dress you’re in business. I love the look of either a stripe dress or a 3/4 sleeve stripe shirt for full nautical style!
You Only Need Three Colors
Red, white, and navy blue are the only three colors you need to wear for a full nautical look. Think navy and white stripe top with a white denim bottom and pops of red or all white with red and navy accessories. With these three colors you have any number of combinations for a nautical inspired outfit
You Don’t Need Sperry’s
Luckily since you aren’t actually captaining a ship, you don’t need to own a pair of Sperry Top Siders in order to have a nautical style outfit. Cute flats, espadrille sandals, or even some sexy heels are all great foot wear options when you’re wearing a nautical look.
Grab A Hat
While it’s often too windy for a hat on the water, if you’re just going for a nautical look wearing a straw hat is a great added touch. It keeps the sun out of your eyes and is a stylish accessory too boot! Go for a boater hat like this one to bring the image of Venetian boatsmen to mind.
And just like that you’ve got some great nautical style! Will you be wearing a nautical inspired outfit the next time you’re out on the water? Let me know in the comments!
