After my post last week about where to shop for designer pieces on a budget, I got a couple questions about how to save for your dream wardrobe. Designer pieces are by no means cheap, even when you’re finding them at a discount but for someone who loves clothes and values the quality, it’s worth budgeting and saving up for these bigger purchases. Here are some tips to help you save up for that dream wardrobe you’ll be loving and wearing for years!
Quality vs. Quantity – We’ve all heard this saying but it bears repeating. While Forever 21 might have the look that you want right now, will that $20 go straight down the drain when your new jeans are falling apart after one wash? Food for thought.
Create a special email account just for sales + promos. This is a great tip for two reasons. First you aren’t cluttering up your inbox with sale email. It helps with the out of sight, out of mind idea. If you don’t see those emails, you are less likely impulse shop because “it’s a sale”! This leads up to my next point
Shop sales smart. If you are going to shop outside of your planned list, make sure it’s on sale. This is where those emails come in handy. They help you be knowledgeable when headed shopping about what sales are going on. For example, I receive emails from Nordstrom Rack which let me know when their Red Tag Sale was going on. This happened to be the same weekend I was planning on going shopping with a girlfriend. I was able to snap a DVF top for $20 all while staying within my budget!
Create discount alerts for your most loved designer pieces. This is one of the ways I was able to snag a Prada purse for 30% off. If you are waiting and saving for an item, make sure you know when it is going on sale so you can take advantage of the opportunity!
Using Store Cards – Now this is not a system I use because I don’t want more than one card but thelovely.co has a great article about how she was able to use her store cards and rack up some serious points. She even was able to get a pair of Christian Louboutins for under $100! Now those are some serious savvy shopping skills!
