While I’m still riding the summer weather train (hello 8o degrees this weekend), we are moving closer and closer to fall. We often focus a lot on fall fashion and fall trends but what about your beauty routine? Specifically what about your hair?
I’m a firm believer that hair is one accessory we can’t take off so it should be given high priority. So maybe you neglected your hair care routine this summer, opting of one less deep conditioning treatment and a couple more dips in the pool. Well there are some easy steps you can take now to start fighting off frizz and the dreaded hat hair come winter.
GET A TRIM
It’s time for a back to school hair cut! Jk, but a fresh trim will do wonders to your sun dried and damaged hair. You’ll notice not only healthier ends and an actual shape but your curls will hold and last longer too. Oh and if you’re thinking of getting some fresh color before your final vacation, Kimberly Marie, my oh so amazing hair stylist, says to not to bother. The sun dries out and bleaches your hair more than you can imagine so wait to touch up your color once your beach days have come to a close.
CONDITION, CONDITION, CONDITION
Just like how your skin can start to feel dried out as the weather changes, the same goes for your hair. Add moisture back into your hair with leave-in conditioners and deep conditioning treatments. I have been using It’s A 10 Haircare for YEARS and keep coming back for more. Their leave-in conditioner is a cult classic for a reason. I’ve used the regular, plus Keratin, Light, and Blonde formulas all with great results.
While a leave-in conditioner is for every time you wash your hair, once a week (or every other week for fine hair) devote a little shower time to deep condition. Gone are the days of deep conditioning for hours on end. I use the It’s A 10 Five Minute Hair Repair for Blondes in the shower, and emerge with smooth, shiny, soft hair. Don’t have five minutes? The It’s A 10 Miracle Mask is a three minute treatment that has very similar results.
LESS HEAT
Be kind to your hair and don’t fry it with hot tools. Instead of reaching for the straightener on the daily, try this hair routine.
Day 1: wash, dry, and style your hair as usual.
Day 2: hit your hair with some dry shampoo (remember this nifty trick?) and rock those second day curls.
Day 3: it’s topknot or braid day! If you want to minimize even more heat, wash your hair at night then let it air dry overnight.
From hat hair to frizz, don’t let your bad hair day last an entire season and start your new hair care routine today for your best hair!
