Since transitioning from college student to full time in an office has caused some changes to my wardrobe. From daily outfits that were cute or trendy, now I’m spending 40 plus hours a week in my work wardrobe.
So after last week’s post, I got to thinking about work wear. Most of us are spending at least 40 hours in these clothes a week. This is more time than you’re likely to wear anything over the weekend. So why do we have two separate wardrobes? Why not find great staple classic work wear pieces that can also be weekend wear?! As I started digging through my own work wardrobe, I started to think of various ways to restyle my 9-5 uniform so it integrates with my off duty clothes. Here are some of my results!
Dresses Get Dressed Down
Some dresses are easy to dress up and down. This dress I’m wearing today can be worn to work with strappy sandals and a structured belt (as I often do) but also works weekends with cozy cardigans and floppy hats. I’ve found that shirt dresses tend to work best for this but
Break Up Your Suit
If you wear a lot of suit or suiting pieces to work, break up those matching sets for your off days. A blazer over a casual denim look instantly elevates your weekend look and lets you use those formal pieces more often than for your big presentation days.
Borrow from the Boys
Play with some menswear style and wear your crisp button ups on the weekends. Pair them with just about any bottoms: chinos, skirts, shorts, or jeans. Shorts add a causal feel while skirts balance the button up with some feminine flair.
Mix Dressy and Casual
I hope the key takeaway from today’s post is to not be afraid to mix dressier pieces with casual ones. Adding a blazer or button up to your weekend wear is a simple but chic way to not only get more wear out of your work wardrobe but to also instantly elevate your look. Think of all the pieces you’d normally only wear to work and see if you can’t find one or two ways you might wear them on the weekends!
Would you ever wear your work wardrobe on the weekends? Let me know in the comments! I’m interested to hear from you ladies!
