Maxi dresses, most well known for being the perfect beach cover up and for keeping you cool in the summer but did you know you can wear them in the winter too?! Not just that you can wear them in the winter but you SHOULD wear a maxi dress in the winter!
Now, I know you’re saying “Ana Luiza that’s just crazy. I’d be freezing if I wore a maxi dress in February!” And to that I reply, no you won’t just add some of my favorite winter layers and you’ll be rocking those maxis in no time!
Keep reading to get all the how’s and why’s you should be wearing a maxi dress this winter!
HOW TO WEAR A MAXI DRESS IN WINTER
Sure it’s cold but that’s no reason to let that cramp your style (literally). Wearing a maxi dress in winter is all about adding layers where people can’t see them to keep yourself warm. It’s actually much easier than you might think.
First, pick a dress with sleeves. It is winter after all and adding sleeves can help with warmth. Want to repurpose a summer maxi? Find a long sleeve tee to wear underneath since the 90’s are back and that’s still a trending look.
Second, add warm layers (it’ll be our little secret). In these photos I’m wearing fleece lined running leggings and a heat retaining base layer tee plus thick wool socks. It’s one of the beauties of a maxi dress. No one can see your legs so go all out with the warm layers!
Finally, swap out sandals for OTK boots. Duh, it’s February you’re probably no going to be wearing sandals but boots instead. While you can wear ankle boots, opting for over the knee (OTK) boots rather than regular ankle boots adds another layer of warmth and another barrier from the wind and elements.
WHY YOU SHOULD WEAR A MAXI DRESS IN WINTER
The main reason you should be wearing a maxi in winter is mainly to stick it to winter. Like I said above, don’t let the season cramp your style! It’s hard to feel fashionable under a winter coat and even harder when you’re wearing a bunch of layers that make you feel like a marshmallow. This is one way to still have the warmth of the layers but to be able to cover it all up with something a little more palatable to your fashion sense.
Second, we are in the point of winter where spring can’t come soon enough. The fun of the holidays are over and we’ve all had enough of the cold and rain, snow, etc to last us another ten months. As maxi dresses generally have some sort of print (generally floral in my experience), this gives us a little spring time in our wardrobe even if there’s still snow on the ground.
Are you a fan of maxi dresses in the winter? Let me know in the comments or on social media! I always love talking to you babes!
Until next time,
