Statement Sleeve for the Faint of Heart

I’m sure you’ve all noticed now that statement sleeves are the trend of the season that is sticking around. Now if you’re already on board, then you know exactly what you like (probably more sleeve the better, right?). But if you’re at all like me, then you are a little hesitant about statement sleeves. How should I wear them? How to I incorporate them into the rest of my wardrobe? How do you even style statement sleeves?

If you’ve asked yourself any of these questions or wondered just how the heck am I supposed to wear statement sleeves this summer, just keep reading!

Start With Smaller Ruffles

If you’re not certain how to start, start small. It’s ok to make a small statement by adding some ruffles to your outfit. This is another huge trend right now so why not combine the two? Plus these sort of tops, with just a little ruffle, are really easy to find right now. I’ve linked a bunch of my favorites below!

Take the Tee Shirt Route

If you’re feeling hesitant about trying out statement sleeves, find a tee shirt like the one I’m wearing here to test out. We all know how to style a tee shirt so it shouldn’t seen as frightening. Plus the tee shirts with some sleeve action tend to be a little more muted than a blouse or top that is all about the statement sleeves.

Solid Colors Only

Choosing a solid color is going to be less overwhelming that if you opt for a print or patterned top. Since you’re already dealing with a whole lot of sleeve, make that the focal point of your outfit rather than an additional pattern. Plus you can wear a white top way more often than you could a floral print. This I think is key when testing out a new trend. Find a piece you can wear tons of ways so you can really get a feel for the trend itself. If you go for a statement sleeve dress, this may not be the case but I really found this helpful with statement sleeve shirts.

Love this top. I am petite and I just can’t get on the huge statement sleeve trend. Maybe if I find something that really speaks to me I will, but I’m just nervous it will look off because I’m so short. I love the smaller sleeves on your top because it’s totally on trend, but isn’t overwhelming!
