3 Myths About Mixing Sporty and Classic Style

tips for styling tennis shoes

We all have misconceptions or preconceptions about different styles. I blame the Spice Girls for my personal style prejudices. I still to this day equate sporty style with Sporty Spice (aka track suits) and classic style with Posh Spice (LBDs and stilettos).

However there are some myths that we carry around with us that simple aren’t true! Here are three myths about mixing sporty and classic style that you can debunk forever!

how to wear sneakers with a dress

1. You can only wear one or the other

One of the biggest misconception about both sporty style and classic style is that you’re either one or the other. That’s simple not true! We are lucky to live in an age where you aren’t stuck wearing just one style or trend for life. You can experiment and have fun finding a trend or overall style that you love!

2. Sporty style is messy and classic style is uptight

Sporty style is what you wear when you’re headed to the gym and classic style is what you wear to work and church, right?! Not at all! Since athleisure has gained so much popularity, you can find some super sleek styles that are not sloppy at all (and even totally fashion forward). Leggings for example can be styled a ton of ways that aren’t sloppy or messy at all. (think faux leather or cute mesh patterns) It’s all about how you decide to style your clothes!

And the same goes for classic style. Sure you can be buttoned up with classic style but it’s more about looking timeless rather than uptight. Think of this a LBD and heels is a classic look but so is blue jeans and a tee shirt. That’s classic American style at it’s core. It’s all about how you dress it up or down that describes if your style is professional and polished or more laid back.

3. You can’t dress up athleisure wear

Sure athleisure is a more casual style but like I’ve said before, we live in a time where just about anything goes style wise. However for us lovers of all things chic and classic, try dressing up a pair of simple sneakers for a more casual look rather than going the leggings-as-pants-route. It can be easier than you think!

I have heard quite a lot of people thinking that classic style is boring which is quite silly to me! Classic just means that the look is just timeless! There is nothing negative about that.
