Yes, you pretty much guessed it, I do my makeup on the bus on my way into work every morning.
Why? Well, a couple different reasons. First, I would rather sleep an extra five minutes and second, because time commuting, whether you do it on the bus or train, is basically time you have to just sit so why not incorporate that time into your functional morning routine.
Here’s exactly how I do my 5-minute office-appropriate makeup on the bus into work:
TOOLS OF THE TRADE
Below are the exact items I use to do my makeup daily but in more generic terms here’s what you need:
- a mess-free powder foundation and application brush
- your favorite blush and blush brush (say that 5 times fast)
- eyeliner
- eyelash curlers
- volumizing mascara
- eyebrow gel
- a neutral lipstick or gloss
It Cosmetics Celebration Foundation
Waaaaaay back on here, I used to talk a lot more about makeup and even did a review of this powder foundation. I still stand by it and love it to pieces! As someone with oily acne prone skin who only ever used heavy duty liquid foundation, I still can’t believe that this powder foundation is as good as it is.
If I need my face to last longer than my usual 8-9 hour day, I’ll put on the It Cosmetics CC Cream instead of my regular moisturizer at home.
I use shade: Light and apply it with the Complexion Perfection Duo brush
Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic blush
This is a blush compact with two different shades in it. You can swirl the two together or use them singularly. I got this as part of a makeup kit for my wedding and it’s a really nice product. I also love the Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes if you need/want something really long lasting.
I use shade: Ecstasy
The e.l.f. makeup brushes don’t get enough attention as they deserve. This was a $3 stippling brush which has lasted me years and is still in great condition. I have several other pieces from their “Pro” line (the black handled brushes) and they are all the same great quality.
Maybelline Line Stiletto Liquid Eyeliner
Yes, I put on liquid eyeliner on the bus #skills. I always had a hard time using liquid eyeliner until I found this one. For whatever reason, the felt tip of this eyeliner is so much easier to use that, while I’ve tried other high-end and drugstore eyeliners, I always come back to this one.
I use shade: Brownish Black
I discovered this liquid lipstick last winter and was instantly hooked. Liquid lipstick that lasts (nearly) all day, isn’t drying and has mess-proof application? Yes, please!
I use shade: ‘JuJu’
Maybelline Lash Sensational Full Fan Effect
This has been my mascara of choice going back over a year now. I wore the waterproof version of this mascara for my wedding because it gives both length and volume. While the waterproof version is REALLY waterproof (only oil-based makeup remover gets it all off), the normal version is perfect for everyday wear. I use two coats for big time lashes.
I use shade: Brownish Black
5 Minute Work Makeup
- Buff on your powder foundation using circular motions
- Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks, blending upwards and outwards towards your temples
- Apply your eyeliner, thickening the line at the outer third of your lash line.
- Curl your lashes
- Apply two coats of your favorite volumizing mascara. Don’t forget to wiggle the brush at your lashline for maximum volume!
- Swipe on some pink or mauve colored lipstick
And you’re set to go! This 5 minute makeup routine is what I wear daily and lasts me all day. It’s perfect for all you ladies that are on the go or if you’d rather hit snooze one more time.
Tomorrow morning (Thursday 9/29), I’m going to show you how I do my makeup on Instagram Stories so make sure to tune in!
What is your usual makeup routine? Let me know in the comments!
Until next time,

I have been eyeing those Charlotte Tilbury blushes! Her makeup looks amazing.
