4 Ways to Embrace Your Inner Blair Waldorf
So I know the show Gossip Girl is long over but the style lessons we learned from the show live on. We all love Serena in the summer but it’s Blair who knows winter style. From colors to layers to overall preppiness, Blair’s style is a great inspiration when the winter blues have you down.
While we may wish we were Upper East Siders (minus the teenage drama), here’s how to make Blair’s unique style work for you.
Get Blair Waldorf Style
WEAR TIGHTS
Sure you could go for months on end wearing pants but if you’re a Blair at heart, you don’t let below-freezing temperatures keep you from wearing skirts. Get your hands on a solid pair of sweater tights and keep your skirts and dresses from gathering dust. Also, don’t think that black is your only option. Colorful tights can spice up any winter outfit with a little Blair Waldorf flair.
BOLD COATS
Whether bright colors or playful prints, Blair knows her way around outerwear. This is one point where the costume designers of Gossip Girl and I see exactly eye-to-eye. Colorful coats are the perfect winter statement. Not only are you combating the cold and grey of winter but you’re also sharing your personal style on the outside where more people will see it.
And don’t think of just coats, capes are another staple in her winter wardrobe and can be in yours too! (Find some of my favorites here)
PILE ON THE LAYER
Sure you’re wearing a skirt in winter but you’ve also got several solid layers to keep you warm. Think collared blouse, sweater, scarf, coat on top with tights, skirt, and heels on the bottom. Any additional layering to a simple two-piece outfit (think simple top and bottom) not only adds some visual interest but it also completes the “Third Piece Rule” turning any clothes into an outfit. You’d better believe Blair is always wearing a third piece
ADD EXTRA PREP AND PATTERNS
While there tends to be an association with winter and neutrals, don’t let that stop you from busting out your favorite prints and patterns. Plaid adds preppiness, stripes are classic, polka dots and ruffles add some girly vibes. Pick one of your favorites or play it up with several patterns and prints for some Upper East sider style.
Until next time,
