If you’re anything like me, jeans are always a challenge. I’ve written about my love/hate relationship with them since I was a kid. Well, I’ve recently discovered a new pair that I’ve been liking and wanted to share with all you ladies.
I’m sure that by the title of this post, it’s the J.Jill Denim Leggings. They sent me these in a PR box before Christmas so, I’ve been wearing them on and off for almost a month now. Every time I wear them, I like them a little bit more. And for someone who doesn’t really like jeans, that’s saying something.
J.Jill Denim Leggings: Pro’s
These are leggings that look and feel almost exactly like jeans. Image a really soft pair that also happens to stretch with your regular movement and that is how these J.Jill ones feel when you’re wearing them. I’d compare them to my favorite jeans, Paige Denim, in softness. They feel like a mix between standard jeans and a pair of thicker ponte leggings.
Another huge pro in my book is that these leggings don’t look remotely like leggings. They have back pockets, a regular waistband, standard button and fly, just like you’d expect from your favorite pair of jeans. I wouldn’t hesitate in wearing these with a shirt tucked in, a giant no-no with standard leggings in my book. With a single wear, these J.Jill denim leggings have shattered my firm belief that leggings are not pants. These are now my exception to that rule.
J.Jill Denim Leggings: Con’s
While these feel like wearing a great pair of jeans, they don’t necessarily wear like jeans. What I mean by that is they stretch out after a couple wears. Unlike standard denim that can go weeks unwashed without stretching too badly, these need to go through the wash and dryer cycles after a few wears to regain their shape. The good news is that they do indeed keep returning to their initial shape after numerous wears and washes.
The other issue with this line is that they run big. I could have gone down a pant size with these. They might not even stretch out as badly if I wasn’t already wearing a size too big, so take that with a grain of salt.
Finally, these do retail for $99. While that might seem like a bargain compared to designer prices, $99 is still pretty steep for a pair of leggings in my opinion, even though they are really nice. In comparison, I generally find Paige Denim at Nordstrom Rack or Saks Off 5th between $50-$80.
Final Verdict
I really like them, so much so that I may go back and get another pair once they are on sale. Given my shopping budget, I don’t want to spend most of it on a pair of leggings but on sale, I’d get them in all three colors.
Let me know if you try out these leggings. They are pretty incredible and have shaken my general distaste at wearing leggings in public. But if no one knows you’re wearing leggings…
Until next time,
Ana Luiza
I can’t believe those pants are leggings! They literally look like a great pair of dark wash jeans. Need to look into these asap
