Today I wanted to share another installment of my Spring Style Essentials series. Today we’re talking about the one coat you need for spring: the trench coat. We are solidly in spring (don’t mind that it’s supposed to snow overnight here in Seattle) so April showers are to be expected so you’re going to need this timeless coat to stay stylish while battling the elements. Just keep reading to read why a trench coat is a spring style essential.
So why a trench coat over any other light jacket or raincoat? Well first off, it’s a timeless classic. It’s been a stylish staple for generations and probably will be for generations to come. I own my grandmother’s trench coat and it’s still in perfect condition and just as in style as when she bought it.
For this reason, I say that if you can invest in a higher end trench coat, do it. Burberry is considered the best of quality high-end trench coats. The Brits have weather very similar to what we have here in Seattle, so it doesn’t surprise me at all that they know their way around a good raincoat (and rain boots too. Hunter boots anyone?)
Burberry is all well and good, but don’t think that I forgot about my stylish ladies on a budget. Trench coats are also available in every price range. I personally like this J.Crew option that is between $300-$150 depending what sales are going on but you can also find great trench coats at Zara, Gap, Macy’s, and even at second-hand stores.
Since we are in spring so rain and variable temperatures are to be expected, a trench coat is a perfect weight to match the weather. While a light jacket, windbreaker, or rain shell may have the function, they lack the style side of things. A trench is the perfect combination of style and function for spring weather.
Finally, a trench coat can be your one springtime coat. It is 100% work ready and also can be dressed down for your everyday. Which other coats can you wear to work with a pencil skirt or with jeans and tee on the weekend?
Have you broken out your trench coat for spring yet? Do you even have a trench coat?
Until next time,
Ana Luiza
I’ve finally started using my trench coat. Dare I say but England is warming up. I love the colours you’ve put together here – gorgeous! xx
I haven’t broken out the trench just yet because it’s still too cold here in MI! Can’t wait to though! Thank you so much for the feature this week, I truly appreciate it!

I love the classic trench coat!
I love your blush pants, they are a great spring signifier. And you are right, the trench is classic and the right one is totally worth the investment. I got lucky and found a lovely vintage London Fog coat at a thrift store, well worth every cent I paid, even if it was only $3.50!

I have this trench and just love it so much! It’s such a great spring classic! And how fun are those cherry blossoms? My post today has the blooms in them too!

Your cherry blossom photos turned out so pretty, Ana Luiza! I love that your post today and my post today are so similar – I have totally broken out my trench coat for spring. 😉
I hope you are having a great week so far!
