This past week, we got our first taste of summer here in Seattle. It hit 80 and was absolutely glorious until Saturday morning. How does the weather always manage to be perfect until about 6 pm on Fridays? My father has a favorite joke that goes something like “what do you call a sunny day after two of rain? Monday.”
Regardless if the 80-degree temps hold (they won’t), my husband and I have started to implement some of our favorite summertime traditions once again. A while ago, we talked about how starting traditions as our own family unit is really important to us as a couple and also when we have kids someday. These are practices that are special and unique to our little family and hold greater value because of the personal bonds that created them.
Evenings at the Beach
We are lucky to live near the beach here in Seattle and last year we really started to utilize that public space. At least once a week, we’ll make coffee or tea after dinner and spend some time with our toes in the sand.
I’ve always lived near the water and really feel at peace and connected to the ocean. My husband, although he is originally from the middle of the country, also has strong connections to the ocean. And throughout our relationship, the beach has always been a special place. Our first serious date was on the beach. We even got engaged on the beach. It only makes sense that this first family tradition include this sandy salty, sometimes pebbly place.
How do you create new family traditions? Do you have favorite traditions even if you don’t have children? Let me know in the comments
Until next time,
Ana Luiza
Family traditions are so important! You’ll be able to look back and have great memories that will mean so much to you!
No beach but we have a pool and a firepit and we like to spend the evening catching up around the fire in the summertime
I seriously love it when the PacNW gets that first taste of spring and summer weather because it is glorious! I’m bummed it’s all dreary again. Hoping for some sunshine soon!
