Why I Shop on Poshmark for Killer Deals

I think I’ve mentioned on here before how I shop secondhand. I didn’t start thrift shopping until a few years ago but before then I’ve always liked shopping at consignment stores or online platforms like Poshmark. Today I wanted to share a little more about why I like shopping on Poshmark so much

(this isn’t sponsored. I’m just a fan)

Why shop second hand? Well I’ve got a handful of reasons. Mine might be different from yours so let me know if you use secondhand shops or online consignment stores to shop and why.

Financial Benefits – More Style for Your Money

First off, there’s the practical financial side of things. In most cases, shopping second hand items costs less than buying them new. How great the discount depends on what the item is (designer, fast fashion, classic staples), how well loved it may be (new with tags, like new, gently used), when it was originally launched and purchased, the basics of supply and demand, and how long it sat in the seller’s closet. What I love about Poshmark is that you can offer a bid different from the seller’s listed price. Most people are willing to negotiate on pricing and those who aren’t generally say so in the listing.

Hunt Down Sold Out Gems

So this is mainly the story of how I found these incredible green heels from Banana Republic. Taylor Morgan of Little Blonde Book wore them in a blog post years ago and I fell head over green heels in love with the look and wanted to recreate it myself for work. Sadly by the time I got to the website, the shoes were sold out. In comes Poshmark to save the day. After a little digging and keyword searching, I was able to find a like new pair someone had listed. One woman’s trash is another woman’s favorite heels.

Especially as someone who reads style blogs and follows bloggers, shopping Poshmark has helped me find older styles at a fraction of the price. But I’ve found plenty of sold out styles listed on Poshmark just months after they fly off the shelves.

Designer Authentication and Peace of Mind

One thing that dissuaded me from buying used designer items online on other platforms is that you could get scammed pretty easily. Poshmark provides designer authentication services for items over a certain price point. This is one of the reasons that I feel comfortable buying designer items over the platform. Of course you want to ask the right questions but it’s a nice safety net to know that there is someone willing to authenticate your purchase.

Less Waste

As someone who shops and has sold clothes on Poshmark, this is such an easy way to reduce waste in your closet. Have a bunch of clothes you don’t wear? List them and make some cash back! Poshmark provides print out shipping labels so it’s super easy to do everything through your phone/computer.

I’ve also grown more and more conscious of the waste created through fast fashions. This is an easy way to keep older clothes that aren’t in style anymore from heading to Goodwill or into landfills.

Some pieces I’ve found on Poshmark for killer steals:

  • Chanel flats
  • Chloe flats
  • Stuart Weitzman lowland boots
  • Stuart Weitzman highland boots
  • Various dresses, skirts, blazers, and tops
  • Paige denim
  • so. much. J.Crew
