Why We’re Traveling to Italy (and skipping the Amalfi Coast)

Yes, some people are saying that traveling to Italy is stale content. “All the big bloggers have done it and all we’ve seen all summer are pictures of girls lounging against antique cars on the Amalfi coast.”  Well don’t worry, you won’t see any pictures of me frolicking on a beach in Positano. We are going to Italy but will be sticking to Rome, Florence, and Venice. Why do you ask? Well here’s a little context.

After I ended my career dancing ballet, I moved to Seattle and started going back to school. For a while, I had no interests in any of the subjects I was studying until I ended up in an Art History 101 class to fulfill my art credit. Human history through pictures? I was hooked. I ended up transferring from a local community college to the University of Washington to complete my degree in Art History. There I spent years studying the Italian masters and was in a year-long course just about Italian art in the seventeenth century (and barely scratching the surface). I even worked in an art gallery before moving into corporate retail. So, yes, you could say I’m pretty pumped to finally see all these pieces in person.

Now I have a question for you. Have you been to any of these cities? Are there any must-see stops that are off the beaten path? Please let me know all your recommendations – things to see, do, and eat!
