Happy Monday all!
I’ve been trying to make it through this pregnancy without purchasing a ton of maternity-specific items. In general, I’ve found that maternity clothes are low quality, expensive, and kinda ugly. So lately I’ve been shopping (and re-organizing) my closet to maximize the pieces that I already own and will be able to wear throughout my pregnancy that isn’t maternity specific. Just keep reading to find out all the non-maternity clothes you can wear throughout pregnancy!
shoes
I’ve always been a firm believer that “when jeans have forsaken you, the shoes will still fit” and that holds true now more than ever. While pants are a struggle these days, I still have all my shoes to fall back on. I’m still wearing my heels, ankle boots, OTK boots, and loafers without any problems.
blazers
Blazers have been saving my style in the office. While I might be rotating the same five shirts, a different blazer thrown on top helps disguise that yes I did wear this tee already this week. They are my favorite third layer piece for a reason and anything that don’t have to button closed are winners in my book these days.
stretchy dresses and skirts
There are a couple of pieces in my wardrobe that aren’t maternity but have filed into that category very nicely regardless. These are form-fitting dresses and skirts that are all about the stretch. I’ve been wearing this black midi dress at least once (ok more like twice) a week. This midi tube skirt was a favorite of mine pre-pregnancy and now is the only way I can get myself into a pencil skirt these days. And I’ve also been reaching for this olive green knotted dress over and over as well.
What do these three pieces have in common? They are all stretchy comfortable material that can accommodate the growing belly and aren’t too short.
relaxed button ups
There are a handful of button ups that are still fitting over this belly these days. These boyfriend cut flannels have been a saving grace for weekend wear but I’ve also managed to keep wearing these silk blouses for a while longer. Since the cut isn’t fitted, they are quite a bit more forgiving than a standard fitted blouse.
Sacrificial lambs
There are some pieces that I probably shouldn’t be wearing but I’m willing to sacrifice and stretch them out. This mainly includes all my old workout gear. While I’ve invested in a couple of pairs of maternity leggings (why did I resisted them for so long and so hard? I couldn’t tell you but I love these ones), I want to continue wearing my old (read grubby) workout gear. These are leggings and tanks that I’ve had since high school that are losing all elasticity anyway so why not just keep wearing them until they wave the white flag of defeat?
What are your favorite items that can grown and shrink with you? Let me know in the comments below!
Until next time,
Ana Luiza

Such pretty pictures and a lovely fall outfit. love the red bag with the red coat. I wouldn’t have thought to do that.
Thanks so much Amy! I love a little (or lot) of red!

I really love the red blazer! You look just amazing and I think that being able to wear non maternity clothes as long as possible is definitely going to be easy on the pocketbook!
