SHIRT: TJ Maxx (this shirt is maternity but I love this one when I’m not pregnant (it’s on sale for $25) and this is a great affordable option that is more loose fitting, which I also love.) // SKIRT: TJ Maxx, maternity (this is a very similar skirt that I have and isn’t maternity but still fits the belly. I also LOVE these pencil skirts and have them in three colors…plus they are on sale right now) // BOOTS: thrifted (these are very similar wedge ankle boots but you know that I’m all about these weatherproof ankle boots right now) // SCARF: Express (this is another great option at a fantastic price and this cashmere option would be a lux gift! So cozy!) // LIPS: Mac ‘D for Danger’ // BAG: GiGi New York ℅ (I’ve had this bag for years now and still love it. It’s big enough to hold my wallet, phone, lipstick, and keys and still maintain its shape. It’s technically a cross body but can also double as a clutch like how I’m wearing it here. It comes in a ton of colors, patterns, and textures as well so there is definitely one for everybody)
If you’ve been around here often, you know that I tend to wear a lot of red. However, when the holidays roll around, I feel the need to amp it up a notch. ‘Tis the season! However, my very scientific research tells me (aka people telling me in person or on the internet) that a lot of people are intimidated by the color or just don’t know how to pull it off. Well, I’m here to say that it’s easier than you think.
The easiest way I can think of to incorporate red into your holiday style is to wear red nail polish. This is my go-to is this CND at-home gel polish or Essie gel polish. These both last me around a week and I love that the color just gives me a little something festive even if I’m wearing all black everywhere else.
Lipstick is another easy way to wear red during the holidays. I know it’s another intimidating shade to wear right on your face but trust me it’s perfectly seasonal and holiday appropriate! My favorite shades for the holidays include bareMinerals ‘Naughty’ (which is a long lasting liquid lipstick), Mac’s D for Danger (a semi matte deeper red lipstick), or Beauty Counter sheer lipstick in Berry (a hydrating wash of color which is perfect for “off” days or if you don’t want a major statement). Still hesitant about wearing red lips? Check out this post where I break down how to get your best possible application and how to find a great color for your skin tone.
Accessories are another simple way to incorporate a little holiday red into your daily life. I’m specifically thinking of accessories that people will see even when you’re all bundled up against the cold. Bring on the hats, scarves, and gloves! There are a bunch of stylish options out there that will both keep you warm this winter but also add some bright pops of color into your look. This pom pom hat is a fashionista favorite but you could also opt for a bright red beret if it isn’t too cold. As for gloves, these are leather tech gloves that have a fleece lining (a must for warm fingers while texting) but these cashmere lined gloves would make for an incredible gift. And don’t forget a bright red scarf! This one is very similar to mine here in these photos but this chunkier knit one would be so cozy.
One final easy way to wear red this holiday season is to brighten up your sweater game. I love these cashmere sweaters and have one in a bright cherry red, which is perfect for the holidays (see it on me here). This is another great sweater option that wears similarly if you aren’t looking for a cashmere option. You can also go the casual comfort route with this soft red tunic. Just add leggings for a cozy holiday at home.
Do you wear a lot of red during the holidays? Let me know your favorite way to wear red in the comments.
Until next time,
Ana Luiza
