Today I wanted to touch on something we are all living with right now, Christmas music overkill. Love it or hate it, there’s no way to escape the fact that it’s just about everywhere. Some people love hearing Christmas music from Thanksgiving until New Year’s while others of us, aren’t as excited to hear Jingle Bells everywhere we go.
Did I just give you a clue on which camp I fall into? Don’t get me wrong, I like Christmas music but when you’re listening to the same five songs on repeat everywhere you go, it can get a little stale. So if you’re trying to get into the festive season, here are my three favorite Christmas albums that are a little off the beaten path (but not too much).
Classic but Fun Christmas Music You Won’t Hate
Boston Pops Christmas Live
The Boston Pops are famous for their jazzed up classical music. Still traditional orchestral music but with a bit more pizzazz than your standard classical orchestra. They do new arrangements of old time favorites that are a nice fresh take on those old standards.
A Legendary Christmas
I have to admit that when John Legend released his new Christmas album the week before Thanksgiving, I listened to it. More than once. No shame because it’s a good album. He has some of the Christmas classics (Silver Bells, etc) but he also has a number of new songs. Plus he and his wife (All hail Chrissy Teigen, Queen of Twitter) put out a tv Christmas special that accompanies the album.
Michael Buble Christmas
For jazzy christmas favorites I generally opt for Michael Buble. He is always my pick for holiday themed background music. I’d highly recommend Michael Buble’s Christmas for your next holiday party if you need a little something playing in the background but don’t want any of the songs stuck in your head for hours afterwards.
