The KonMari method seems to be everybody’s plan of attack for 2019 after Marie Kondo’s book and now Netflix series, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. I have yet to see the series (but I did read the book when it was new) and don’t plan on completing an entire overhaul of my wardrobe and life but I understand why people want to do it now in January. Clean house, clean closet, clear mind, I totally get it.
As I’m sure a number of you are participating in the KonMari challenge, I want to leave you with only the best options so you can have fewer better things. So here’s the plan! For the next few weeks I’ll be going through some wardrobe staples and highlighting the best of the best. One budget buy, one splurge, and why they are worth the space in your closet. Let’s dive right in, shall we?
Wardrobe Staple: The Little Black Dress
The Little Black Dress, or LBD as we’ll call it, is a staple must-have in any woman’s wardrobe. It is a work wear go-to and ideal for any times you need to go from desk to date night (or cocktail party) in a flash. You can dress is up with heels and statement jewelry for a party or dress it down with sneakers and a denim jacket for the weekend. It all just depends on the style of LBD that you opt for.
But really though, is there anything else in your wardrobe that can work quite as hard as the LBD? Your jeans can’t easily dress you for a wedding. That favorite tee probably won’t cut it at the office. A well cut sheath LBD, it can do both!
SPLURGE: A couple birthdays ago, I splurged on a fitted work dress from J.Crew. That exact one is sold out but this dress is nearly identical and the perfect dress to get you started. Fitted around the waist sheath is the classic LBD shape. This version of the dress is also a great find and is released in several other colors seasonally.
SAVE: This dress from Nordstrom Rack is a great style for the price and very similar to the splurge option. It even has a really fun sleeve detail that can make it a little more modern. This is another dress option that is on sale for under $100 that is the classic LBD sheath shape. For $80, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth out of it.

Love all these dresses, I’ve watched 3 episodes of this show so far. It’s interesting, but I’m not sure it applies to my life. I’m a pretty good organizer.
I just started watching that series over the weekend! I really need to clean out and organize my closet. Love all of your black dresses! They are such a great staple!
