Beauty Counter Product Reviews

Beauty Counter product review - Beauty Counter overnight peel

Over on Instagram last week, I shared a quick IGTV review of some BeautyCounter skincare products that I’ve been testing out. You can watch my review here but since not all of you use Instagram, I thought to share my thoughts on these clean skincare products here as well.

If you haven’t heard, I’ve started the process of switching my skincare routine over to clean and safer skincare. Why? Well once I found out I was pregnant, I knew I couldn’t use some of my go-to skincare products. That led to a dive into the world of clean skincare and a quick realization that I was in over my head with information and ingredient names.

That’s where the BeautyCounter comes in.

BeautyCounter basically became an east one stop shop for researching products that are considered “clean” or safer skincare. They have the “Never List” of ingredients that they don’t have in any of their products, which I’ve found quite helpful when shopping around for other safe skincare products or when looking at the products that I use with regularity.

There are three BeautyCounter products that I’ve been using for several months now.

Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion

This day time moisturizer was the first BeautyCounter product that I ever tried. Just like the name says, it adapts to the level of moisture that your skin needs throughout the day. I’ve really liked this product because it feels like my dryness and oiliness has regulated considerably since I started using it. I don’t get overly dry or overly oily throughout the day. It’s also light enough to go under makeup without a fuss. So far, I’ve found that it plays nice with all the foundations I use, whether that is a light CC Cream or a heavy duty 16-hour matte foundation

One downside about this product is that there’s no SPF in it so you have to use an additional sunscreen for daytime. This can also be seen as a plus because that means no flashback

Overnight Resurfacing Peel

This overnight peel is considered the BeautyCounter “holy grail” product. It’s the one that people say turns them onto the brand if they were on the fence and I can see why. The Overnight Resurfacing Peel is a gentle AHA/BHA leave-on peel that improves skin texture without over drying and irritating the skin. Coming from someone with sensitive skin, I’m always a little scared to try any at-home peels or chemical treatments and this overnight peel didn’t cause me any irritation.

I’m cautious and only use the peel once a week but even with just that one use, I can feel a difference in my skin texture. It always feels noticeably smoother the following morning and my makeup will go on smoother as well. According to the package, with regular use you’ll have visible results in diminishing dark spots, fine lines, and enlarged pores if you have any of those skincare woes.

While this is a bit of a pricey item, a little does go a long way. I only need one pump of product to cover my entire face in a thin layer. I’ll use two pumps if I want to also use it on my neck and decolletage. However you can get the travel size version of this product if you want to take it for a little trial run.

Countermatch Pure Calm Cleansing Milk

This Cleansing Milk was a product I struggled with until somewhat recently. It’s a face wash that applies to dry skin then emulsifies as you add water. Now that I know how to properly use it, I really like it. It gently washes my face without leaving it feeling tight or completely stripped down. I will use it in the morning and occasionally in the evenings to remove light makeup. If I’m wearing a full face of makeup, this stuff doesn’t quite do the job.

However, there was a bit of a learning curve with this product. Unlike oil cleansers I’d used in the past, you need more of the product than you think you do. I normally use about four pumps if I’m removing makeup and two or three pumps the rest of the time. Also the directions say to use warm water and they mean it. Cold water won’t cut it!  For whatever reason, the cold water just leaves my face a greasy oily mess with all my makeup still on and smeared all over. Now that I know to use this cleansing milk properly, I like it. Like I said, it washes your face without making it feel tight or dry to the point where I have forgotten to put on moisturizer afterwards and that never happens with my previous face washes.

I’ve been toying with the idea of buying some of their products but have been so hesitant because of the price tag and I’ve tried so many things in the past and always come back to my drugstore cetephil. This review came in handy so maybe I’ll look at their stuff again. Do you use any of your regular products mixed in or just these? Also, Beauty Counter has a face sunscreen stick, that’s amazing! I used it all summer and will never go back to just plain old sunscreen that makes my face breakout again.

I also love Cetaphil and had a hard time giving it up. I still use it sometimes to get heavier makeup off. Lately, I’ve been minimizing the number of products I use and I’ll occasionally use an additional mask or something.
I’ll check out the sunscreen. I’m still looking for a good one that plays nicely with makeup.
