SWEATER: Charter Club (These are super affordable 100% cashmere sweaters. They go on sale all the time and are generally between $50-$100) // DRESS: old Tommy Hilfiger (This dress is ancient and I honestly don’t even remember where or when I got it. This Tommy Hilfiger dress looks to be a new version of mine. This one also looks to be very similar but is still under $100) // BOOTS: Hunter (While these are not boots for cold weather, Hunter rain boots are great for wet Seattle weather. These are the original high gloss but I also own the original tall in military red and hunter green. A sizing note, I wear size 7 and that fits thick socks comfortably) // COAT: J.Crew (This is probably my most worn coat that I’ve had for years and sadly it’s starting to show. I’m looking to replace it with this trench coat that is known to be warmer) // BAG: Amazon (I have an entire post with other look-a-likes to the designer version of this bag.)
I’m sure you’ve seen them if not here then on some influencer’s Instagram post. Hunter boots are the ever popular rain boots that have been around for decades. I should amend that statement to say, they are the $150 rain boots that have been around for decades.
Yeah, $150 seems a bit steep for a pair of rainboots. So are they really worth the money? Here’s what to know so you can decide for yourself.
Everything you need to know about Hunter boots
They aren’t for the cold
While they might look like duty heavy boots, Hunters actually let in all the cold. Seriously never wear them in the snow because your toes will freeze off. While you can get their special fleece socks to help, these boots are only for wet and muddy days.
They come in a rainbow variety of colors
Hunter boots come in a variety of solid colors, no prints. This can be a drawback for some but for me it was a plus. No loud pattern or prints. However, you do get the option of either a glossy or matte finish.
They have travel-friendly styles
While most people wouldn’t pack a pair of rainboots because who would want to give up that much luggage space but Hunter boots have a travel-friendly style. These tall boots ROLL UP and get small enough to go into backpack pockets (see a demonstration here).
There are Tall, Short, and Wide-Calf options
If you are set on getting Hunter boots, you have some options on what style to get. There are the original tall styles, short ankle, and special wide calf varieties. There are even slim modern styles if you don’t like the look of the heavier original.
They cost $150
These are pricey rain boots. However, you do have options if you want the boots for less. I recommend looking for a pair second hand (all of mine were second-hand finds). I’ve found that fashion-focused consignment stores generally will have a couple of pairs on hand. Poshmark and eBay are also good options for finding a gently used pair for less. You can also opt for a child-size versus adult sizes. The boot shaft will be shorter and you have to figure out the size conversion but you’re likely to save a bundle.
So are they worth the money?
Well, ultimately that’s up to you to decide. For me, living in Seattle where we have plenty of rainy days, yes they were a great investment. I regularly wear mine on rainy days, muddy days, to the beach, to the mailbox, and basically anytime I need to muck about.
As I said above, I found mine second hand but I could see paying full price for a pair of Hunter boots. I used my first pair so often that I was able to justify getting a second pair. Do you need more than one pair? Probably not. But I live in a wet damp climate so I’ve found it handy to have one pair at my desk or in my car in case I get caught in the rain with inappropriate footwear and want to salvage my shoes. (It’s happened more than once)
So are Hunter rain boots worth the money to you? Let me know in the comments!
Until next time,

Hunters are great. I have tall ones a and the little ones too, which I actually wear more than the tall ones. I think they’re more comfortable than cheaper boots.
Super cute outfit and I do love the look of Hunter rain boots. I have been wanting a pair for years but what keeps holding me back is that I simply cannot decide on which color I want. And I do not wear rain boots often enough to have multiple pairs, so I must choose wisely at that price point. Thanks for sharing all these tips about the brand. Much appreciated!
