So today I wanted to finally share these fantastic gingham pants with you guys. I bought them last winter while I was pregnant and have been itching to wear them for months. Well, spring finally arrived and I had the opportunity to bust them out only to think to myself “how will I ever wear these?” Since then, I’ve been trying my hardest to wear these super cute gingham pants in as many ways as I possibly can. Consider it a personal challenge that I set for myself to prove that my fashion taste didn’t completely go off the rails while I was pregnant.
So today I wanted to share two ways to wear gingham pants with you guys. I’ve obviously been on a gingham bender this year but I’m loving how it’s a print that just gives off the best spring and summer vibes. But onto the pants
Look #1
Boden Richmond 7 / 8 Pants (Also available here. This print isn’t available anymore but they do come in a bunch of other colors including pink gingham. J.Crew has a very similar pair of gingham pants in blue and pink) // old J.Crew tee shirt (the new version of this shirt has a lace sleeve edge while mine is old and has eyelet sleeves. Old Navy has a version that is very similar to my eyelet version) // J.Crew Sweater Blazer (Yes, I know I can’t stop talking about this sweater blazer but it’s THAT good! You need it in your life. I have it in three colors, just saying) // old Jeffrey Campbell slingbacks (these are pretty similar and they come in pink) // Prada bag (I got this bag via Fashionphile which is my go-to for used designer. I have a whole post about how I invest in designer bags here)
This first look is a more casual option for wearing gingham pants. I say casual even though it’s a little on the dressier side of things. In reality, it’s just pants and a tee shirt. I added the sweater blazer because I liked the idea of wearing a third piece to feel a little more dressed up even though I’d wear this for my basic mom-duty days.
A plain white tee, pants, and comfortable flats isn’t a hard outfit to put together when the pants are jeans so I don’t know why I was having such a hard time with adding a little print into the action. I guess partly because it’s so much going on on my bottom half. A loud print on the bottom was just a lot going on so I made sure to keep everything else minimal with no prints and otherwise neutral muted colors.
Look #2
Boden Richmond 7 / 8 Pants (Also available here. This print isn’t available anymore but they do come in a bunch of other colors including pink gingham. J.Crew has a very similar pair of gingham pants in blue and pink) // Old Navy chambray button up (if you need an affordable chambray, this is a great option. I wear mine all the time) // old Michael Kors heels (these are the newer version from Michael Kors but these are also very similar) // Prada bag (I got this bag via Fashionphile which is my go-to for used designer. I have a whole post about how I invest in designer bags here)
This second look is something that I might have worn into the office on casual Friday. Again with the pants, it’s a lot going on so keeping everything else to a minimum was key for me! I like how the chambray blue acts as a neutral against the blue check of the pants. Something about wearing the same color family on top and bottom keeps it from being overwhelming in my eyes.
And since it’s me, I wore blush pink accessories since pink is a neutral in my eyes. Sure it’s feminine but in this outfit, I think it works well to not overwhelm or distract from the printed pants. What do you think? Does pink work as a neutral in this outfit?
Since the spring I’ve found even more combinations but these were some of the first two that I tested out. I’ve also worn these pants with an oversized white button-up and neutral flats, which was probably my favorite outfit featuring these pants, and I’ve also worn them even more casually with an overlong white tee tucked in the front and sandals.
I hope to feature more of these How to Wear an Item X Number of Ways posts. Especially this time of year when there are so many sales going on, I feel like blogging and Instagram can sometimes give people an unrealistic impression of just how many clothes you need. Posts like these were you get one item and really experiment with how to wear it is real life. Re-wearing clothing over and over again is real life. Doing #NoShopJuly has been helpful for me to reign in my own materialism and reset my approach to clothing and getting dressed in the morning.
So please let me know. Do you like seeing posts like these? Do they inspire you to remix and match your wardrobe? Let me know in the comments!
Until next time,
Ana Luiza
