I have a new-to-me beauty product to share with you ladies! Introducing the Isle of Paradise self-tanning drops. I’ve been using these on and off for a couple of months now. However, since it’s getting warmer and I’m starting to break out the dresses as well as my pasty white legs, I’ve actually been consistently using these self-tanning drops with much success. Well here are my thoughts and in-depth review of the Isle of Paradise self-tanning drops for those of you who may want a low-maintenance tan at home.
Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Drops Review
To get straight to the point, overall I’m a fan. There are one or two things that I don’t love about these self-tanning drops but on the whole, I think these are fantastic if you want low maintenance, fuss-free self-tan at home.
The first pro, these are one of the only clean self-tanners available right now. Since self-tanner goes onto such a large surface of my skin and sits there, pigmenting my flesh for days on end, I’m understandably interested in having that product be a clean one. You can read more about my transition to clean beauty products here.
The second pro, they are super easy to use. I’d say almost fool-proof since you just add them to your regular lotion. However, since there isn’t a color guard (most self-tanners are tinted so you can see where you’ve applied the product but then you have to wash that off. It’s also the aspect that smells.) there have been a few times when I was sloppy and in a hurry and didn’t blend it in enough and the application was splotchy. I just slapped on some lotion and forgot about the tanning part. User error but still.
Finally, these have no scent to them. Cue me doing a happy dance! I really can’t stand the fake tan smell so when I was pregnant I just stopped using self-tanners completely (heightened sense of smell and all). I’m so happy that these have no scent to them. You’ll just smell like your lotion rather than some fake coconut masking chemicals smell.
Application
So the application could not be easier. Just add a couple of drops to your regular body or face lotion then apply that lotion like normal. The packaging says “the more drops, the darker the tan” so those are the guidelines that I follow. I use about four drops per leg and two for my face. These drops come in three different shades, light, medium, or dark so you can find a tan that will best match your skin tone or desired level of tan. I use the medium shade.
After you’ve applied your lotion+tanner, I’d recommend treating it like a regular self-tanner, meaning no tight clothing while it’s developing. And don’t forget to wash your hands!
While the application is super easy, the only downside is that there isn’t a color guard so you don’t know exactly where you’ve applied the lotion/tanner cocktail. This, however, is part of what makes it such an easy-to-use self-tanner so you have to weigh what is most important to you. At this point in my life, I just want low maintenance easy beauty products so I’m ok not having a color guard.
Wear Test
Since I generally shower at night, I’ll apply the self-tanning drops at night and by the morning, I’ll have a nice glow going on. No need to rinse or wash off the tanning drops; you just go about your day as normal.
The tan I get from these drops lasts about two days before it just looks like a super blotchy fake tan. At that point, I just exfoliate in the shower and re-apply. Simple as that.
I will say that working out and sweating a lot seems to make the tan wear out faster (much like a regular spray tan). I always notice that when I go running, my tan is basically gone along my bra line and underneath my socks.
Where to Buy It
I get mine at Sephora. You can also find them on Isle of Paradise’s website or Amazon. They cost $29 a bottle everywhere.
