We are back home from Montana. Last week we packed up the car, said goodbye to Andrew’s family, and drove the nine hours back home to Seattle. I honestly am a little sad to be coming home. Being in Montana was such a nice break from reality and normal life that I think we’re all going to have a wee bit of trouble adjusting back to normal life. From my mothers-in-law cooking to having babysitting as needed to the beautiful views and warm weather, yeah I’m going to miss it. But I’m just happy that we had that time at all.
If you saw any of my other posts from Montana, either here or on Instagram, you’ll recognize this little backpack that I’ve been toting around all month. Before this trip, I’d been using a tote bag as my baby bag. It worked fine up until recently. What changed? Well Ted knows how to run now. I really just need both hands available anytime I’m out alone with him. So I began my search for a backpack diaper bag.
And I realized really quickly that most backpack diapers bags are either really ugly, way too big, or way too expensive. I just wanted a small toddler diaper bag that is simple enough that it won’t pass for a diaper bag but I can use on day trips. So after a bunch of internet research, I end up in the Kalispell Target looking at backpacks.
A small sidenote. Going to Target in a small town is a WAY different experience than going to Target in Seattle. Well stocked shelves, friendly employees, practically nobody else in the store. Wow, what a great experience!
I ended up with this mini backpack from Universal Threads. And for $25, I couldn’t be happier with it! It’s exactly what I wanted and I just happened to stumble upon it.
For a day out with my toddler, it holds everything I need. Diapers, wipes, snacks, a small water bottle, phone, keys, and even more snacks all fit easily. The only time I run into space issues is when I want to bring my DSLR camera AND all those items as well. Without the big camera, it fits everything with no problem. I even carried my phone tripod and remote around Montana and still had some room left over.
And toddler diaper bag aside, I also used this backpack when Andrew and I went out for a day together. We went on a drive, a little hike, and wandered around Whitefish. Because it’s not pastel, floral, or childish, I don’t mind carrying it when I’m not with Teddy. The neutral beige means that it matches most outfits or at the very least doesn’t totally clash with other things I might be wearing.
So if you’re looking for a simple backpack that is ideal for day trips, this $25 backpack from Target is a great find!
