So last week, I started the process of giving our living room a little makeover. I showed you guys all my inspiration images and all the different functions I need that space to fill. I’m kind of asking a lot of the space but your response to that post has given me a lot of hope.
When I say ya’ll delivered on advice and suggestions, I mean it! From quick tips and opinions to long chats in DMs, to sending drawings of layout ideas, I am so appreciative of every single one. I really mean that from the bottom of my heart.
After much late-night internet window shopping, I think I found some things that will be a good start. I am almost to the point where there are too many options and I don’t know where to draw the line. I just keep coming back to my inspiration post and the drawing my friend sent me.
Affordable Home Decor for a Small Living Room
Sofa & Love Seat
The number one piece of advice you guys told me was to start with the big stuff. Meaning furniture ie: couches. I think that I’d like to opt for a couch & love seat set so we have enough seating. Then down the road, I can add an armchair to the mix as well. I found several contenders that I’m interested in. I love this set but this one is $600.
Accent Chair
This is something that I’d like to consider getting down the line. It’s not going to be part of the initial makeover but maybe in a few years, we’ll be able to spring for a really beautiful and comfortable accent chair. Right now I’m leaning hard towards navy blue but we’ll see when we get there.
Floor Mirror
We don’t have a full-body mirror in our house. Eek! In my dreams, I’d like to get one like this Anthropologie mirror or this one from West Elm but I’m more likely to settle on one of these instead. As long as it gets the job done.
Built-In Shelving and Storage
Since we have a fairly small home, storage is everything to us. I’d love to have built-ins added around the fireplace but these unfinished bookshelves are a much more affordable alternative. You have to finish painting them yourself which both drops the price and allows you more color choices.
Console Table
Since we don’t have a set space as the entryway of our home, everything starts to pile on the first available surface, aka the dining table. The goal with this entry table is to have that be the catch-all-area. Bonus if there is space underneath too!
Coffee Table
Right now I’m not planning on a coffee table. With our son so young, he likes having the space to play. However, if we end up thinking about getting one in the future, I’d like to opt for one with storage underneath. And round! Toddlers and corners do not mix well.
Ottoman
The same as the coffee table, we just don’t have a need for an ottoman right now. Again, if we end up with one in the future, it will hopefully have storage. Maybe combine the two?
