Fall is here and normally that means I’d be swapping out my beauty products from lightweight summer products like tinted moisturizers to more full coverage foundations and bold lip colors. But it’s 2020. So what does that mean for fall beauty? While my skincare is going to be swapping over to more cold weather products, I’m also looking to make some fall beauty swaps as well.
And I should say that for me, these aren’t really swaps because I’m basically starting with a totally blank slate. My summer beauty routine was sunscreen and nothing else. Between it being summer when I normally want to wear less makeup in the summer combined with staying at home due to COVID, I didn’t really see the point.
Also, while I have swapped out all of my skincare products for clean alternatives, I haven’t really started switching to clean makeup. I just haven’t really crossed that hurdle yet. My general theory is that the items closest to your skin and that sit on your skin the longest should be clean. After that, the 80/20 rule applies. So makeup took a backseat to skincare, then 2020 happened and I basically stopped wearing makeup. This fall, I want to try harder to take care of myself and part of that means doing my hair and/or (let’s be real) every day.
Fall Beauty Products for 2020
Mascara
Since all you can see of people’s faces are above the mask these days, the first swap is for a volumizing mascara. I really like the Better Than Sex mascara for ultra volume. The L’Oreal Volumizing Lash mascara is a drugstore version of the same product.
Brow Gel
I’ve got plenty of brow so I don’t normally pencil them in at all. But they are unruly so a good brow gel is a must for me. I find that the NYX tinted brow mascara is a good drugstore option that is similar to Glossier’s Boy Brow. Beautycounter’s Brilliant Brow gel is a great option if you want a clean version.
Eyeliner
I have been using the Maybelline Line Stilleto liquid mascara for years and I just keep coming back to it. I think it’s so easy to use because it’s a super thin felt tip and the formula isn’t super watery. I like the shade ‘Brownish Black’ but you have to order it online as it’s hard to find in-store
Lipstick
In the age of Covid and mask wearing, lipstick is sadly not really a thing. But if you do still wear lipstick for your Zoom meetings, I love love love the BareMinerals matte liquid lip color. It’s a mousse-like texture and lasts for hours.
