Because it’s fall, every blogger and their dog is busting out the faux leather leggings and I count myself among that group. Last year I purchased my first pair of faux leather leggings and I have to say they are ideal for 2020. Look like pants but with the comfort of leggings? Yes, please.
I wanted to give you a faux leather leggings outfit idea if you too want to get on the leather leggings bandwagon. I got this pair of Commando faux leather leggings last year and I’m still very happy with my purchase. I wore them last weekend for date night and they were great for a night out on the town. Dressed up but warm is always my go-to now that I’m past the skimpy-dresses-even-in-winter phase of life. Remember those days? You’d go out in a tiny dress and no coat because you didn’t want to carry it with you. Yeah, I’m glad I’m not that young and silly anymore.
But back to leggings! One thing to know about Commando leggings is the sizing. They run small. Really small. According to the sizing online, I should be a size small. I sized up to a medium and it was still too tight to be comfortable. I ended with the large and the sizing was finally right.
Once you get the right size, they are a really great product. They are easy to get on thanks to an inner liner that allows things to glide so you don’t feel like Ross from Friends. They don’t fall down as you wear them and the super high waist keeps everything smoothed out without constricting your breathing. Just a great buy all around.
Commando vs. Spanx Leggings
The big debate in the faux leather leggings market is between Spanx and Commando. I personally chose the pair from Commando but I’m in the minority. However, I’ll argue that the pair from Commando is the superior pair.
Why Commando over the Spanx faux leather leggings? Well, the Commando faux leather leggings are thicker, warmer, and look more like real leather. Since I wear these in the cooler months, I want that added warmth. The added thickness of the material makes them seem more like pants or a Ponte legging than a traditional athletic legging.
I don’t factor price into this as both the leggings from Spanx and the pair from Commando retail for the exact same amount. However, I have noticed that the Spanx pair tends to go on sale more often.
As for the rest of this outfit:
$10 Target Headband – This is one of the best headbands I’ve ever owned. It’s just $10 from Target and it never has me feeling like my brain is being squished. Even with all-day wear, it’s loose enough that it doesn’t get dropped off partway through the day.
Tuckernuck Peplum Jacket – This top is actually a jacket that I think is much cuter all buttoned up and worn as a top. It is currently out of stock but the listing is still live which makes me wonder if it will be restocked in the near future. I’ll keep an eye out and let you know if it comes back. Until then, this sweater from H&M would give you a similar look. I think you’d just have to size up for more length.
Chanel Flats – I love these Chanel flats and wear them whenever I have the chance. I got mine secondhand so they are really well-loved but they are still in good space considering that I’ve had them for at least six years. If you’re looking for a great place to get a pair secondhand, TheRealReal is a good reputable site. These are also great if you want the look for less.
GiGi New York Chelsea Bag – I’ve had this bag since my first ever trip to Fashion Week. It was a PR gift at a party and I remember feeling like I had made it. I couldn’t believe they were just handing out personalized handbags at a party. My mind was totally blown. I still think of that moment every time I use this bag and smile a little. It’s a great little purse that can be worn as a crossbody or as a simple clutch. After all these years, it still is in great condition.
