Let’s be real, I’ve been wearing leggings a WHOLE LOT more often these days. Between social distancing at home and having a toddler, it’s just easier some days to embrace athleisure. But I will say that on my leggings days, I’m always concerned about finding a shirt that also covers my bum. Well since temperatures have dropped suddenly and swiftly around here, I’m switching from athletic shirts to cozy sweaters.
I ended up doing a bunch of internet deep dives trying to find a couple of options that will get me through this winter and the toddler years. Below are my top contenders.
7 Fall Sweaters to Wear with Leggings
Free People Ottoman Tunic
This sweater has been on my list for over a year now. It was made to be worn as an oversized layer so the cut is ideal for wearing with leggings. The body is longer and slightly oversized but not too much but the sleeves still fit like a normal sweater. You will want to size down though.
Dudley Stephens Cobble Hill
These fleece tunics are made from recycled plastic and have become a must-have in the preppy fashion community. Frankly, I’m all on board. Super cute fleece sweaters plus it’s a woman-owned small business that has grown exponentially over the past couple of years.

LL Bean Fisherman’s Tunic
I have a cable knit tunic sweater very similar to this one from LL Bean. This knit tunic also comes in a handful of colors so you aren’t just such with white.
Aerie Summer Desert Sweater
This is a great option if you live in a warmer climate but still want to wear sweaters in the autumn. It’s a thin oversized sweater made with a terry-like fabric. I actually ordered this a few weeks ago but ended up returning it because it was too large. You definitely want to size down. It’s currently on sale for $18 if you want to snag one on a major discount.
Free People Brookside
Another option from Free People is this Brookside sweater. It’s a high low sweater that will cover your bum and also comes in a handful of colorways. You can also find it here and here
Gap Mock Neck Tunic
This is a cozy and affordable option from the Gap. I really like the mock neck look that makes it seem more expensive than it is.
Old Navy V-Neck Tunic
A really affordable option is this one from Old Navy. It comes in a handful of colors as well as petite and tall options. It is on the thinner side so good for you ladies in Texas and California.

Here it is in stripe
If you want to splurge on something really cozy, this cashmere tunic is a great option. I imagine it’s super warm.
