Toddler Cold Weather Favorites

one // two // three// four // five // six // seven // eight // nine

I wanted to share some of my favorite cold-weather items that I’ve purchased and have been using on Teddy. I started to transition his clothes into winter mode about a month or two ago. Since then, I’ve honed in on the products that I really like for winter weather. Lots of these pieces made the cut because they are easy to get onto a squirmy toddler plus they are ideal for our wet Seattle winters.

Quick caveat: we do live in Seattle where the temperatures are mild compared to Chicago or New England. What we specialize in is wet weather! 45 degrees and rainy is a typical winter day here in Seattle.

Winter Clothes for Toddlers

1. Fleece Footed PJs

These are the wintertime pajamas I use for Teddy. He’s still not sleeping with blankets but I find that these keep him quite warm. Carter’s makes a similar footless style but I find that I prefer the footed PJs since I’m always concerned about his feet being cold. They also have grips on the bottom so I don’t worry about him slipping on the hardwood floor.

2. Cat & Jack Fleece Sweatshirt

I really love these sweatshirts as play clothes for day to day. They are fleece on the inside and come in a handful of colors and patterns. A family friend turned me onto these when she made all the kids matching sweatshirts with their names screen printed on them. Teddy’s wearing one in this post. Target has since extended the line so you can get this sweatshirt in a handful of prints and patterns

3. Ski Pants

These pants have been fantastic for playing outside or for trips to the park. I don’t have to worry about him getting cold, wet, or dirty since I can easily slip these on and off over whatever pants he happens to be wearing at the time.

4. Patagonia Puffer Coat

Here in Seattle, puffer coats are ideal! They have the dual purpose that they are water repellant and very warm without too much bulk. All three of us have these puffers and wear them all the time.

5. Stroller Sleeping Bag

If you use your stroller outdoors regularly, you’re going to want a stroller sleeping bag. Mine is a more lightweight fleece version but they make them for all levels of winter weather. These are great because you aren’t constantly dropping blankets on the ground then running them over with the stroller. I may or may not know this from personal experience.

6. Snow Playsuit

We haven’t had a chance to use these playsuits yet but my friend Annessa turned me onto them. She swears by them for her son Danek. Much like the ski pants, these snow playsuits go on over their regular clothes so they can play outside without being cold or wet. I thought these a heavier playsuit would come in handy in Montana versus the more lightweight ski pants and coat combo.

7. Ugg Sneakers

My mom found these sneakers for Teddy and they have been a favorite since the weather turned cold. The lining feels comparable to a micro-fleece or something along those lines. It makes these sneakers feel warmer and more substantial than typical sneakers for cold days.

8. Hunter Boots

Seattle winter means a lot of rain so a pair of rain boots are necessary. Teddy loves that he can put these on by himself (let’s be honest, so do I). These Hunter rain boots, while pricey for kid’s shoes, are truly fantastic. I went up one size to extend the amount of time Ted will be wearing these.

9. Lined Jeans

These are a new find for me but so far so good! For day-to-day or more mild weather, these pants are sufficient. They act like pull-on sweats but look like denim. I have found that these regularly sell out (I’ve tried to buy them twice) but H&M restock often

10. Shearling Hat.

Another find from my mom! This shearling hat has been amazing because it’s so warm plus Ted will actually wear it! I really like that it covers his ears so they stay warm too.
