This has become an annual tradition here on NWBlonde! Instead of a year in review (I actually wrote a short one last week), I share my year in clothes. Specifically, the clothes that I wore over and over again.
Well, I thought 2019 was my most casual year to date but oh was I wrong! Like everyone else, 2020 found me at home almost all year long, so naturally, there was a pretty big shift in what I wore. On top of the quarantine of it all, I also had a toddler to run after in 2020 so I was all about comfort and mobility last year.
Most Worn of 2020
Waterproof Birkenstocks
Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I’d be a regular Birkenstock wearing kind of gal. Never say never and 2020 was one of those years. This waterproof pair ended up being great over the summer when I’d go to the beach or play in the yard with Teddy.
Leggings
I mean 2020 was the year of the leggings. Especially the second half of the year when it became apparent that this pandemic wasn’t going to go away anytime soon. Leggings became a way for me to change out of my pajamas but still be comfortable for a day spent at home. These Aerie leggings were such a great find because they are so incredibly soft and buttery but so banans cheap at the same time. I’ve heard that these are almost an exact match to the Lululemon Align leggings but without the $100 price tag. The Old Navy Powersoft leggings still continue to be my favorites for working out.
Uggs
Same as the leggings, 2020 brought back Uggs into my life. I have the shorties that I only really wear at home because my feet are always cold but since we were home so much this year, I got a lot more wear out of mine than normal.
J.Crew Barn Coat
I purchased this coat in 2019 but I still love it and wear it a ton. It’s ideal for spring and fall here in Seattle and since those are the dominant two seasons we have, I wear this coat a lot. It’s preppy and cute but also super practical. I can fit my wallet and phone into the large pockets so I can be hands-free when I’m out with Teddy.
J.Crew brought this coat back in a couple of different colors this year. Barbour also has a version of this same coat if you don’t mind spending a little bit more.
Cable Knit Cardigan
I picked up this oversized chunky cardigan this fall but basically haven’t stopped wearing it since. I didn’t expect it to be as high quality for the price I paid and was very pleased. It was warm enough to wear as a coat in the fall and I’ve since taken to wearing it around the house in lieu of a bathrobe. (Mine is sold out but this one is a good alternative)
Cole Haan Sneakers
I purchased these at the beginning of the year and have worn them non-stop since. They are so comfortable and lightweight, I really can’t stress that enough. Plus they are just a classic white leather sneaker that goes with just about any outfit.
Overalls
When I wanted to wear pants but didn’t want to deal with the reality of an actual waistband, I reached for my overalls. I’ve had these for years (see their blogging debut here) and still love them.
Amazon Mumu
I was a little harsh on the Amazon mumu the first year I owned it but this past summer caused me to eat my words. I wore it constantly. It was nice and lightweight for the warm summer weather. It als0 hides stains from sticky toddler fingers really well.
J.Crew Sweater Blazer
Pandemic or no, I still managed to wear the Sophie sweater blazer plenty. That’s because of its versatile nature. It’s part blazer, part cardigan so I would slip it on over jeans and a tee-shirt to make myself feel more dressed up. Even in the summer, I’d wear it with my jean shorts and sandals sometimes.
Headbands!
2020 was the year where I really leaned into headbands. There was an article that said headbands are the new handbags of 2020 and they weren’t wrong. I have several pairs that I love and wear on rotation. The latest addition is this sparkly number from Etsy.
Faux Leather Backpack
Over the summer, I broke down and got a diaper bag backpack. Teddy and I spend the month of August in Montana where we traveled around quite a bit just the two of us so I needed a hands-free diaper bag. I purchased this one for $30 at Target and it’s perfect! Small and neutral but big enough to hold everything I need for a day out with one child.
