Welcome back to the next installment of Taking a Blonde Moment. This is a monthly segment meant to be a more casual and breezy post where I can share things that don’t fit into other blog posts. Articles I’ve read, things I’ve purchased, weekend plans, etc.
What a way to start 2021. I’m not normally one for swearing but holy shit. There has been too much news these past two weeks. Oh my gosh!
One of my personal goals that I’ve been working on for the past few months is getting my phone usage down to under two hours. I’ve been doing this gradually over a couple of months and January is the month where my average screen time on my phone needs to be under three hours by the end of the week. Well, let’s just say that goal went out the window the first week of this year. Between scrolling Instagram and Twitter, reading the NYTimes, and all the constant updating and doomscrolling, I’m shocked it wasn’t higher.
Anyway, I hope that you’ve been better at balancing your media diet over the past couple of weeks that I have. Let’s all collectively try to relax and reset this weekend before the drama that is bound to unfold next week with the inauguration. I hope and pray that it goes off without any unrest across the country but honestly, I’m not getting my hopes up.
Take a Moment to Chill
- Andrew and I started watching The Crown on Netflix over the Christmas break. As usual, we’re five years behind the tv trends but the show is as good as everyone says. It’s the life story of Queen Elizabeth II and we love it because there is basically no drama. I heard people joke that it’s a show where nothing happens and it’s so true! The drama is very minimal and overall pretty petty. It’s a great way to escape the current news cycle.
- I also started watching Bridgerton over the holiday break (Andrew sat this one out). It was just what the week between Christmas and New Year needed! A light period romance series where Gossip Girl meets Pride and Prejudice. I loved it! It was so aesthetically pleasing with the colors, sets, and costumes. Also, the music is fun! Check out the playlist here. Apparently, they are looking at making up to eight seasons!
- I’m doing the Barre3 January Challenge. It’s been a nice way to ease back into working out again (I stopped back in September). I’ve been taking 30-45 minute classes five times a week at home. This weekend I’m going to one of the in-person classes that they are teaching in an old barn in our neighborhood.
- I’m trying to lean into slower living. For me, this means involving Ted in anything I’m doing. Tasks take 4x as long as it normally would but I think it’s good for both of us. He’s learning a bunch and I’m learning to chill and not be so uptight. It doesn’t matter if unloading the dishwasher takes half an hour. We’ve got the time!
Take a Moment to Shop
- I shared all my most worn pieces of 2020 here. It was a weird list this year including the Amazon mumu but also leggings and Uggs
- I shared reader favorites of 2020 last week. It’s always so interesting to me to see what you guys like. I’m happy that the sweater blazer of life made the list!
- I picked up a few new pieces of workout gear to help me get motivated. I got this sports bra top and this sweatshirt that I’ve been eyeing for a year now.
- This weekend is one of the first big sale weekends of 2021. Are you looking to pick up anything for yourself this weekend? I’m sure all the usual suspects will have sales. But if you’re looking to celebrate MLK Day by giving back, Jess Keys has a blog post you should read.
