Today I wanted to give you a quick review of a jacket I reach for every year as soon as the leaves start to change colors. The J.Crew quilted barn jacket has been a staple in my wardrobe for years now and I still love it as much as I did on day one. J.Crew annually brings this jacket back and this year is no different. It’s a great jacket that can work for mild climates year-round or as a fall/spring jacket in colder climates
J.Crew Quilted Barn Jacket Review
- It’s not cropped but also not too long. Ideal on my 5’5″ frame. I wear a size medium.
- It’s also available in petite sizes
- It comes in neutrals and fun colors as well. I have it in red but it’s also available in navy and moss green.
- It’s water-resistant. A must in the PNW.
- The corduroy collar and gold hardware add a bit of interest to what could be a simple jacket.
- Speaking of that hardware, it has both buttons and a zipper which gives you some options on how you’d wear it given the weather.
- Deep front pockets! I often put my phone in one, my wallet and keys in the other, and can be totally hands-free when I’m out with Teddy.
- Those pockets button shut in case you’re worried about anything spilling out.
- There are also side pockets for your hands as well!
- The quilting makes it warm enough for fall and spring here in Seattle. I imagine it would be perfect all winter long southern climates.
Alternatives
This year J.Crew actually has a bunch of versions of this jacket. There’s the unlined barn jacket which is the exact same coat without the quilting, the downtown field coat is very similar as well but with a different (not water-resistant) fabric, and finally, the quilted puffer lady coat is a close copy but without the collar. Those three are the closest to the quilted barn jacket.
J.Crew Factory also has a version of this coat, which is the quilted diamond puffer. It’s quite a bit cheaper but without the embellishments and pockets
