The internet finally broke me and I bought a Stanley 40oz Adventure Quencher during their last restock. In honor of the restock that is happening next week (May 31st/June 1st), I wanted to share my honest thoughts about the internet-famous cup.
Is the Stanley Adventure Quencher worth the hype?
It’s known for being huge and all of TikTok is obsessed with them but is the Stanley Adventure Quencher worth the hype? Long story short, yes and no. It really depends on your lifestyle.
The two biggest selling points for me is that this cup holds a massive quantity of liquid and it fits in a standard cup holder.
It’s also known for keeping drinks really cold or really hot for long periods of time. But here’s the rub. I don’t need 40oz of hot tea or coffee. I’m also not a big iced drink person and I don’t drink soda so a lot of the appeal of this tumbler is lost on me. I even like my water around room temperature so the features of this cup are kind of lost on me.
Then we need to mention that this cup is $40. Which is pretty steep for a cup. But a comparable 40oz Hydroflask with a straw is over $50.
It has also become a cult-followed item so these cups have actually become hard to get your hands on. Stanley restocks their website and the cups sell out within minutes. Especially the fun limited edition colors. You can occasionally find them on Target.com but again, the fun colors and patterns sell out quickly.
One more thing to note is that it’s really heavy when full. Seems obvious but because of that, I’m scared it will get knocked over and create an actual lake in my house. Toddler problems.
The main feature that I like about the Adventure Quencher is the size. 40 ounces is a lot of liquid and if you drink three full tumblers of water a day, you’ve just about reached a gallon of water.
I saw @TIBAL post that she buys these and gifts them to new moms, which is a great idea. Nursing moms need all the hydration. Trust me!
Maybe if I spent more time in the car or at a desk, I’d like it more. Back in my corporate days, I had a 32oz cup on my desk so I know that the office worker version of me would have loved having this cup with me at work.
If you don’t want or need a 40oz cup but like the other features of the Stanley, they actually have smaller sizes. The Adventure Quencher is a series of tumblers that come in 30oz, 20oz, and 14oz sizes. The 40oz cup is the only one in the family that has a handle but they all come in fun colors aside from the standard black, silver, and white.
So let’s summarize. Here are the main things I really like about the Stanley 40oz cup.
- It’s huge so I know that if I drink three in a day, I’ve had just about a gallon of water. That said, I average two a day. It is a lot of fluid.
- They come in a variety of pretty colors. I’ll admit that I’m tempted by the ‘Citron’ and ‘Grapefruit’ colors that are coming in this next drop. The bright colors are so happy and vibrant.
- It has a handle. With a cup this large, it makes toting it around much easier.
So is the Stanley cup worth it? In the end, this cup isn’t a great fit for my lifestyle at the moment. I don’t get a great deal of value out of it other than its size. However, I can see why people love it so much. If you’re clocking hours in the car to and from work or running kids around town, I can see the appeal.
Update: Since I first drafted this post, I have used my Stanley much more and several of the features and selling points have grown on me. I really like having it in the car and I’ve grown to like the straw. Also now that the weather is warming up, I’ve started adding ice occasionally and it really does keep your drink cold for most of the day. The Stanley has become my primary water bottle/cup while my trusty Nalgene now lives on my bedside for middle-of-the-night hydration but otherwise goes unused.
