Lady in Red in Rome

The second stop on our European adventure that we took last month was Roma, Italia!  This was the first time either of us had been to Italy and all I can say is “Wow!” There is so much history in that country that, as an American, it’s almost hard to wrap your head around it. As I mentioned before, I studied Art History in university and spent an entire year just on Italy of the 16th century and barely scratched the surface. So to say that this trip was a huge treat is putting it very lightly.

We began our time in Rome by flying in to the Ciampino airport. If you can fly into that airport, you are treated with a view of a lifetime to start off your trip. We saw the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and St.Peter’s Basilica all from the air during landing.

Our first day was spent getting our bearings, eating (pizza, gelato, ravioli, repeat), and napping. I was beat from jet lag and the heat in Rome was killer. By early evening we were able to get up and do Rick Steve’s Heart of Rome walking tour which hit Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, and several other major landmarks.

These photos were taken after we’d spent the majority of a day in the Vatican. It was an incredible day that was really one in a lifetime for me. One of my major highlights from our entire trip happened there. By happy accident, we ended up on the roof of St.Peter’s right at noon and could hear the bells tolling both at the Vatican and across Rome. It was beyond a magical experience and an incredible day.

If you’re interested in more details about our trip (where we stayed, what we ate, what worked/what didn’t), just let me know. I was thinking of doing a post to round up all that information but it would be a long post.

Also today is the final day to fill out my reader survey and enter to win the giveaway! If you have a couple minutes to fill it out, I’d really appreciate it!
