It’s that time of year again… Nordstrom is having their annual Anniversary sale and we are all collectively losing our minds about it. Whether you can’t wait to shop or can’t wait for everyone to shut up about it, it’s going to happen whether we like it or not.
Here’s the deal, I’m going to share a couple of posts about the sale. I polled you ladies on Instagram and am following where you lead me. I’m not a Nordstrom cardholder so I’ll be waiting until the sale is open to the public July 19th to actually buy anything but I’m planning on sharing some beforehand. And what I’ll be sharing will be budget friendly, timeless (no one-season-wonders please and thank you), and men’s clothing.
Why do people care so much about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?
First things first. Why do people care so much about the Anniversary sale? Well, Nordstrom makes an annual splash by marking down all their brand new, never before seen fall inventory BEFORE the season even starts. This means you can save money by shopping for fall now rather than waiting until the end of the season when things are normally marked down. It ends up being a double win. You get to save money AND wear your new fall clothes all season long.
They open up the sale for their cardholders July 12th and then for everyone else on July 19th.
Here’s the downside. Every blogger and their dog starts shleping talking about it all at the same time. If you follow a bunch of bloggers on social media, you can’t help but see all the #NSale posts going throughout the month. And it gets old. Fast.
A moment of disclosure for you guys. Many bloggers, present company included, share so much about the Nordstrom sale because it’s a HUGE money maker for us. Nordstrom via affiliate networks pays upwards of 10% commission during the sale. This means that if you click on a link here on NorthwestBlonde and end up making a purchase through that link, I make a 10% or so commission on your final sale total. During the sale, my affiliate income spikes much like it does during the holiday season.
I shared more about affiliate networks on this post and in the Fine Print page which you can find here. But in a nutshell, your clicking on links and shopping via my blog helps make me money so it’s in my best interest to be as helpful as possible for you ladies. At the same time, I don’t want to beat you over the head with it and to be even more honest, I’m not a huge shopper and will probably only buy a couple, as in one or two, things for myself and maybe a handful of other things for Andrew.
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2019 Preview
That all being said, I went into my local Nordstrom yesterday and scoped out the sale a bit. Like I said above, I’m not a cardholder so I won’t be shopping the sale until it is open to the public on July 19th (plus it’s #NoShopJuly so I’m actually be waiting until August to buy anything). However, the very kind salespeople let me into the cordoned off areas to check things out and snap some pictures. Here’s a little of what I saw:
BEAUTY | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2019 Preview
There will be some fantastic beauty gift sets available. This isn’t a category that I’ve paid much attention to in the past but this year I saw a handful of amazing deals on high-end beauty and skincare products.
I’m predicting that this Charlotte Tilbury lip trio set will be an instant best seller. It’s three full sized products, two of which are cult favorites. I wore this exact lip combo on my wedding day and can attest that it really is as good as they say.
This GloPro Kit is another that I’m guessing will be an instant sell out. It’s an insane value for the amount of product PLUS the tools that you get in a single set.
This Fresh Rose set is another fantastic value set. I’ve tried all of these products separately and really liked them all.
This setting spray is like perma-hold hairspray for your face. I use this anytime I need my makeup glued to my face all day or if the weather is hot and humid. It worked wonders in the Texas heat and humidity last month.
Kiehl’s has two separate sets available. I’m not super familiar with any of these products but I’ve heard that the Midnight Recovery Concentrate line is amazing. I used the Ultra Facial Cream during the winter and it was a really nice moisturizer when the weather is cold and dry.
Supergoop has several products sets available including multipacks of the SPF 50 sunscreen, their SPF 45 setting powder which I haven’t tried but have heard good things about, and their Forever Young SPF hand cream.
WOMEN’S CLOTHING | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2019 Preview
In women’s clothing, one of the categories with the best savings tend to be in coats. There were a bunch of fall and winter (depending on where you live) coats on sale. I specifically noted lots of prints like plaid, tweed, and leopard print. Plus plenty of fuzzy faux fur options and teddy style coats.
Every year Nordstrom includes a couple of moto jackets and this year it looks like jewel tone faux suede is the winner. This jacket came in burgundy, taupe, black, and I think green.
A selection of J.Crew pieces are going on sale including the classic Tippi sweater, the Parke blazer (I saw yellow, navy, and grey tweed options) and some of their popular graphic tees.
Overall, I saw a TON of leopard print, mustard yellow, deep reds, navy, and burgundy. Nothing revolutionary but still a color palette I can get behind for the winter months.
WOMEN’S SHOES | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2019 Preview
Ok, the biggest savings during the Anniversary Sale tends to be in shoes. All kinds of boots are on sale and it’s totally worth it (in my mind) to save now on boots that you’ll be wearing all fall/winter long.
The under $100 boots table was the most interesting to me. I saw a handful of styles that are weatherproof including the Blondo boots that I’ve been eyeing (and talking about) for well over a year.
Aside from the under $100 ankle boots, there were also several taller boots also labeled as weatherproof, a large selection of classic and timeless heels, and so many loafers! You ladies know I love a good loafer.
I also saw that Hunter boots will be on sale, specifically the Tour packable travel style. This would be a great time to save on these classic rain boots since they are a little pricey. I have a whole post on whether Hunter boots are worth the money here, which can help you determine which styles/sizes might be good for you.
Other Honorable Mentions | Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2019 Preview
Men’s – I always use this sale as an opportunity to stock Andrew’s wardrobe for the year. He has a hard to shop for body type (6’4”, slim, all arm and leg, medium tall) but Nordstrom house brand 1901 fits him quite well so I tend to get several of the sale items from that brand.
The quick peek that I took in the Men’s Department showed that all the usual suspects have sale selections: Ted Baker, Bonobo, TopMan, etc. This is also a great time to get any suiting that your man might need since some options will be on sale and you can get the tailoring done right then as well.
Children’s – I never looked into the children’s section of Nordstrom in the past (and honestly I still don’t) but I will say that a couple of things caught my eye as I was passing through this section to go back to my car.
Nuna brand stroller and car seats had several options on sale. I don’t have experience with this brand but I’ve heard that it’s nice and I can see that it is quite popular.
Freshly Picked also had a backpack on sale that I’m considering buying. I looked into their diaper bags in the past but never pulled the trigger because of the price tag but this might be the moment to snag one.
Here’s What Looks Interesting to Me
UPDATE 7/12/19
Ok the sale is live for cardholders and I took a quick look through. Below are some of the women’s clothes and shoes that look interesting to me. I’m the most interested in finally pulling the trigger on a pair of Blondo waterproof booties.
Happy Shopping!
