Hanging Onto the Last Bit of Summer

It may be September but I’m hanging onto the last little bit of summer with both hands. I feel like people fall into two camps when it comes to autumn (see what I did there). There’s the fall starts September first, give me pumpkin spice everything people. And there are the summer people, aka my people. We are those people who love summer and realize that, although it may be September, it’s still going to be beach weather for several weeks. I may be showing some bias here.

Regardless of whichever side you fall into (I’m sorry, I can’t stop), this summer went by in a blur. I feel like we didn’t actually do much but at the same time, we did so much that it feels like June was yesterday.

In May, we went on our first family of three road trip to Long Beach. Then in June, we took Teddy on his first flight to Houston to visit my family and see Hugh Jackman in concert (my Christmas present from Andrew). Then we drove off to visit Andrew’s family for the 4th of July in Montana, stopping in Spokane so I could visit with Annessa before she moved back to Germany.  August was a whirlwind of bridal showers, bachelor and bachelorette parties for our friends Erin and Isahia’s wedding which is actually coming up this weekend. Then we finished off the summer with a long weekend in Canada.

In between all that, Andrew was off diving, I had many a baby park date, friends moved away, we made some new friends for this stage in life, and so much more. I feel like it was a pretty ambitious summer schedule considering we have a new baby in tow now. That’s probably the biggest culprit in why summer has just flown past.

Anyways, onto what I’ve been wearing. The last time I wore this outfit I was pregnant and wandering the streets of Rome with Andrew (shoveling gelato into my mouth as fast as I could 😉 ). Since this outfit was worn for so many happy memories, I have a lot of emotional attachment to it.

Old Navy Relaxed Clean-Slate Shirt

You’ve seen this classic white button-down here on the blog more times than I can count. I wear it all the time because it’s a wardrobe staple that never goes out of style and it easy to style for whatever the occasion may call for. What you might not have known is that this shirt is stain repellant.

Yeah, I’ve always known that this shirt was stain repellant but I never really put it through the wringer until this weekend. I traveled solo with Teddy to Canada and managed to not get anything horrendous spilled on it, a feat within itself. Then on our trip back, Andrew offered me some of his coffee. What I didn’t realize is that he had opened the lid to see how much was left in the cup and then didn’t secure the lid back on when he handed it to me. So yes, I ended up with half a cup of coffee running down the front of my shirt.

But the beauty of this clean-slate technology is that after wiping up the mess, there was only a small hint of a coffee stain on my white blouse. The other passengers on the ferry who saw coffee-gate 2019 happen even commented on it. Once we got home, I hit the shirt with some stain remover and after a wash and spin cycle, it came out looking brand new.

Land’s End Polka Dot Skirt

This is a thrifted find from a couple of years ago. It’s actually two sizes too big but the elastic waistband makes all the difference (aka it doesn’t fall down). As I said above, I have a lot of emotional attachment to this skirt since I wore it during that trip to Europe while I was pregnant. It feels very “me” when I wear this skirt. I imagine I’ll hang onto it forever.

This is a similar-looking skirt but you can find my exact skirt second hand on sites like eBay and Poshmark

Marroqui Sanchez Sandals

After my tried and true favorite sandals finally breathed their last about a month ago, I’ve been looking for a new pair that can be my day-to-day sandals. My mom found these navy and woven Marrioqui Sanchez sandals at TJ Maxx and I haven’t stopped wearing them since. They are comfortable with that low chunky heel I’ve been embracing because carrying a car seat in stilettos is a joke. I don’t think that these will be my new die-hard-favorites but they are solid contenders.

Old Navy Tote Bag

I honestly can’t believe how well this tote has held up. It was an under $40 find about three years ago and it hasn’t fallen apart yet. Consider me impressed! I’m all about tote bags these days (even more than I already was) since I have to shlep around all of mine and Teddy’s stuff these days. It’s true that the tiniest people come with A LOT of gear!
