Gal Meets Glam ‘Maggie’ Dress (also available here. Available in pink here and here) // old cap-toe slingbacks (mine are sadly sold out but I’ve heard that these are very similar and very comfortable. These are also a great closed heel alternative) // Claire V leopard clutch (I love this clutch. It’s generally my go-to for formal occasions. This is a more affordable alternative)
It only took a year and a half but I’ve finally tried something from the Gal Meets Glam Collection! If you aren’t familiar, Gal Meets Glam is an insanely popular fashion and lifestyle blog that expanded into a dress line just a little over a year ago. If you like my personal style, you’ll find something you like in the GMG Collection. Think classic, feminine, timeless, Kate Middleton type dresses.
Why did it take me so long to finally get one of her dresses? Well, they are a bit on the pricier side from what I’d normally pay for a dress and I was uncertain about sizing. I mean, I found out I was pregnant right after they launched so that was a major factor.
But they just ran their first sale a couple of weeks ago and I picked up a couple of dresses and had my first “pink box moment” last week.
Out of all the styles available, I ended up with the Maggie dress and the Hattie (which on sale right now at Nordstrom for 50% off). The Maggie dress is the one that I see myself wearing the most this coming fall and winter.
Sizing & Fit
Overall, I’d say that the dresses fit true to size. I’m wearing a size 6 and it fit just right. The Maggie dress has a little stretch to the fabric so if you’re in-between sizes you might be able to get away with sizing down. However, I don’t know if that is the case with other styles.
The ‘Kristen’ dress seems to be very similar to the Maggie but with short sleeves instead of ¾ length. It’s also available in navy and burgundy.
Another thing that I’m loving about GMG Collection is that they are working on becoming size-inclusive. They have petite sizes in select dresses (generally the top sellers) and have working on getting their size range to include plus sizes. I think they are currently going up to size 20 or 22 in select styles, same as Petites I think.
Price
This is one of the biggest barriers between me and more GMG dresses. All the dresses and jumpsuits range between $150-$200, which is steep for a dress. Part of my reasoning for selecting the Maggie style was that I can see myself wearing it a bunch and thereby reducing the cost per wear.
For all my ladies who don’t mind shopping secondhand, however, there are a ton of Gal Meets Glam Collection dresses available on sites like Poshmark and eBay. I’d just recommend that you go into a Nordstrom and test out your size before making a purchase.
Quality
I can see why the price point is high on these dresses because the quality is great. The material is heavy and feels expensive while the detail work is well done. Overall the dresses that I’ve tried have been well made so while they may be pricy, you’re getting a high-quality item in the end.
Where To Buy
There are several places where you can get GMG Collection dresses. The primary two locations are their online shop and Nordstrom. Both have their advantages. Nordstrom for their hassle-free returns if you shop online and something doesn’t fit right but they only carry the dresses in select stores. The GMG online shop has the largest selection and ships your order in a pink box, which is a lovely detail.
They also have a selection at Dillards and Anthropologie. We don’t have Dillards here in Seattle so I don’t know if they have them in stores or only online. Anthropologie only has their dresses in select stores.
Overall Thoughts
I’m happy with my purchase. I can see myself wearing this GMG Maggie dress throughout the fall and into the holidays. It’s easy to dress it up with heels but it also looks cute with loafers or boots. I’ll also be able to get plenty of use out of this dress year after year since it’s simple and classic rather than a one-season-wonder.
I’m impressed with the brand overall and have been since the start. It is obviously well thought out and they clearly know their audience since items regularly sell out with each launch.
