One area of clean beauty that I haven’t tried out yet is clean hair care products. As the Beauty Editor here at NorthwestBlonde.com, I feel that it is my duty to test out this category of clean beauty and report back to you 😉
There are two specific reasons why I want to delve into clean haircare. The first is because I have eczema on my scalp. Sorry if this is a little TMI for you. But whenever we have a change in the seasons a patch of my scalp along my neckline flares up and can get pretty uncomfortable. The other reason is postpartum hair loss. I didn’t have too much hair loss but I’d like to give my hair a chance to grow back healthy since it’s starting from scratch.
Some background on my hair. I have extremely fine hair. Like Teddy probably has thicker hair than I do. But thankfully I have a lot of it. Because it’s so fine, I struggle with oiliness and products weighing it down. While I was pregnant this wasn’t a problem but in the last couple of months, it has returned with a vengeance. I’ve also been bleaching the life out of it for years now. It’s been every shade of blonde under the sun but I’ve been trying to minimize heat styling and the number of times I go in for color.
Where I Find Clean Hair Care Products
Honestly, the only place that I’ve really looked is on Sephora’s website. Since they’ve expanded their ‘Clean at Sephora’ label to include hair products so I really like that I don’t have to dig deep into ingredient lists. BeautyCounter also has a couple hair products but the selection is pretty limited.
Clean Hair Care Products
Ok, this is a product that I’ve used in the past but I’m super excited to find out that it is actually a clean beauty product! I try to use this each time I get my hair colored. It’s a deep repairing conditioning product that can make even bleached blonde hair feel like brand new untouched hair. It’s pretty incredible. If you’re a bottle blonde like me, ask your hairstylist to use Oleplex when you get your next color touch up. I’m always amazed how my hair goes from straw to healthy with only a few of the at-home applications. It’s even better with the salon treatment as well.
2. Briogeo Don’t Despair Repair Mask
This is a new to me brand that I’ve heard only good things about. I follow Coffee Break with Dani and she also has super fine baby hair and she swears by this line. This product specifically is a deep conditioning hair mask that is meant to be used once or twice a week. Their Don’t Despair Repair line is all about healing damage and thereby seeing less frizz, etc.
3. Briogeo Don’t Despair Repair Leave-In Conditioner
Sadly my long-time go-to leave-in conditioner is not clean haircare approved (it was It’s A 10 btw). I’d like to try out this Briogeo leave-in because it seems like it does many of the same things as It’s A 10 but without the harmful ingredients.
4. Briogeo Apple Superfood Shampoo and Conditioner
This is another product that Coffee Break with Dani recommends for those of us with three hairs. This is a product more geared for everyday use since it’s just a lightweight shampoo and conditioner.
5. BeautyCounter Volume and Shape Mist
As far as hair styling products, I haven’t found many that are clean. This volume spray seems totally up my alley. I’ve been using the Dove Oxygen Moisture volume spray for years and this seems like it may be a good clean alternative.
