Do Things That Scare You

 Eleanor Roosevelt quote

Have you heard the saying “do one thing every day that scares you”? Apparently it’s misattributed to Eleanor Roosevelt but the actual quote is the following*:

“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”

Well, there’s something that I’ve been working on throughout quarantine. It’s scary to share it with all of you since it really requires me to put everything out there in a whole new way.

Are you ready?

I became a certified HIGH Fitness instructor!

If you’ve read any of my recent posts about fitness, you’ll know that in the past year I’ve become obsessed with HIGH Fitness. It’s a fun, upbeat, high energy cardio workout that combines HIIT moves with aerobics. It’s not your mom’s aerobics! There are burpees, tuck jumps, jumping jacks all to a fun soundtrack of songs throughout the ages. I leave every single class in a better mood than when I started and also drenched in sweat.

I first heard about HIGH Fitness on Instagram but only ever tried it in person after I had my son. After my first few classes, I knew I was hooked. I remember it being SO HARD to enjoy working out during that postpartum stage. I was doing BBG and trying to lose the baby weight all while I was still nursing and not sleeping. I was so weak, so winded, and just kind of down on myself. Discovering HIGH Fitness reminded me of how fun a workout could be and how good I could feel afterward.

Since that first class, I’ve been attending HIGH Fitness classes at my local gym pretty regularly. Not only have the workouts become easier but I’ve made a great group of friends as well. It became so much more than a workout. It was my social time with other stay-at-home moms my age. It was “me” time away from Teddy. Plus I got all the feel-good endorphins from an hour-long cardio workout.

Anyways one of my friends from the class went through the teacher certification process and started teaching right before the Covid-19 shut down. We were able to chat about the process and hearing about it from her pushed me over the edge. I knew I wanted to do it and quarantine was just the time to get my certification done.

So that’s my big news. I made a separate fitness Instagram account where you can learn more about all things HIGH Fitness and general health and fitness things. I hope to start teaching at some local gyms once they open again sometime this summer.

Here’s to a whole new adventure in fitness. At least, once the gyms open up again!
