The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is here and currently available for Nordstrom cardholders. If you aren’t a Nordstrom cardholder (raises hand), we can only start shopping next week but the site is available so you can make your wishlist now if you want. You can also see all the sale items that don’t require a Nordstrom card here.
Ok, I know that there can be a lot of chatter and hype around this sale but this year I wanted to keep things pretty practical. Given the state of the Corona Virus here in the US, kids aren’t going back to school this fall, people are still working remotely, and the fact that we are in an economic recession, it really doesn’t seem like the time to shill all the latest and greatest items from the sale (of which there are a lot). However, I know lots of you (myself included) use this time to pick up some items that you already needed at a discount.
If you read my earlier post about the Nordstrom anniversary sale, you’ll know that I’m planning a series of posts highlighting items I’d consider for myself, Andrew, and Teddy. So that means practical NSale items for women, men, and toddler boys.
What do I mean by “practical picks”. Well, I just want to be helpful in a practical sense. Meaning, most of us are staying home right now so I want to reflect that in my sale coverage. Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom trying to figure out online school for your kids or if you are working from home due to the pandemic or if you’re a true hero and doing both at the same time. I want these items to be helpful and functional for your day-to-day so you can get the most bang for your Anniversary sale buck.
So, shall we get into it?!
COATS
J.Crew Schoolboy Blazer – One of my favorite blazers is part of the sale! Seriously this is such a great piece that you can wear for years. See mine in plaid here.
Barbour Quilted Jacket – A classic that you’ll have for years.
Patagonia Puff Hooded Jacket – This is probably one of the most popular coats here in the Pacific Northwest. It’s quilted and warm, has a hood to protect you from the rain, and is water repellant.
Patagonia Fleece Vest – Another classic staple from Patagonia. It’s plush and super cozy.
North Face Hooded Parka – Similar to the Patagonia jacket, this North Face is a little longer and slightly more figure-flattering IMO. It’s another great coat for a Seattle winter.
SWEATER & CARDIGANS
Patagonia Half Zip – I’ve talked about this before but it really is a great sweater. It makes for a great gift too. They also have the men’s and children’s version as part of the sale
J.Crew Cardigan – “Three long line cardigans doesn’t seem really practical Ana Luiza…” I know but I like them each for separate reasons. Pick the one that most suits your purpose. This J.Crew one is nice because it’s a classic staple. Long, v-neck, nice button details, and comes in the standard black, brown, navy colors
Leith Long Cardigan – This one is a little more simple and comes in a greater variety of colors. It’s also a little cheaper
Barefoot Dreams Cardigan – This one is just all about the cozy factor. Barefoot Dreams is known for its super cozy blankets, robes, and cardigans. I gave one of these to my mother-in-law and she can attest. They also have a slightly cheaper version here.
1.State V-Back Sweater – This is just a simple waffle knit sweater for everyday life. It’s affordable, comes in a bunch of colors, and would be great with leggings or jeans.
Nordstrom Signature Cashmere Tunic – Ok if you want to splurge on something really cozy, this cashmere tunic is it. It’s pricey but you have some serious warmth factor. It would also be great with either pants, jeans, or leggings.
DRESSES
Frank & Eileen Tee Shirt Dress – Or should I say dress. While there are tons of dresses as part of the sale, this is the only one that I can justify sharing with you. It would be cute with ankle boots and a jacket over top but also with sneakers and a cardigan. I like that it seems both simple and versatile
TOPS
Halogen Long Sleeve Top – This is just a simple staple that you’ll wear all winter long. It’s thin so it’s great for winter layering and it comes in a handful of neutral colors, again a great base layer. Plus it’s only $20 on sale
Madewell Floral Top – This is a little oversized but that just makes it great for lounging. You can wear this with leggings for a more casual look or tucked into jeans.
Frank & Eileen Stripe Button Down – This is a classic that you can wear over jeans or leggings, summer or winter. It’s Italian cotton and cut a little oversized so it will cover your bum. But (see what I did there) it’s also a bit more expensive, although its almost 50% off during the sale.
PANTS
Commando Faux Leather Leggings – These are my faux leather leggings. I like them better than the Spanx because they are thicker, warmer, and look more like the real deal. You can see them on me here.
Spanx Faux Leather Leggings – These are a sportier version of faux leather leggings. They both cost the same so you can get the one that works best for your lifestyle.
Halogen Ponte Pants – These are called pants but they really just feel like ultra-thick leggings. I used to wear them to work with tunic-length tops and a blazer. Now I wear them at home with longer tees. They are really nice for staying at home but feeling like you got dressed.
Zella Joggers – Another stay-at-home staple. I normally never wore my joggers but 2020 has totally changed that.
Zella High Waisted Leggings – These are super popular for a reason. That being said, I only ever buy them on sale (aka right now). They are normally $60 but right now they are on sale for $38
J.Crew Pull-on Pants – My pull-on pants of life are on sale! Hello, comfort while looking like you belong in an office. I normally get mine from J.Crew Factory but these are probably a nicer quality.
Paige Denim – My favorite designer denim are Paige because they are super soft. To the point that they don’t even feel like jeans. This is one of the few times a year when the most popular styles go on sale.
ACCESSORIES
Ray-Ban Sunglasses – Ray-Bans almost never go on sale! This is a great time to get a classic style for under $100.
Brixton Joanna Hat – I have a really old and similar version to this style that’s on sale. I’ve had it for years and have only good things to say about it. The biggest selling point: they come in different sizes so big-headed people like me can find a solid fit.
Longchamps Le Pilage Tote – I’ve had my Longchamps tote for over 10 years now. This is the expandable version so it would be great for traveling.
Madewell Transport Tote – This is a fun spin on their classic transport tote. It’s the same bag but it has a rainbow racing stripe down the center to add some colors
SHOES
Hunter Tour Boots – These are the package style from Hunter. I think that if you’re only going to have one pair of rain boots, make it a pair of this particular style. The ability to roll these up for travel (whenever we get to do that again) is a big selling point for them. You can read my Hunter Boots review here
Cole Haan GrandPro Sneakers – These have been my most worn sneakers for several months now. They are comfortable, lightweight, and had zero break-in time. The ones that are on sale have a little bit of leopard print and a scalloped edge on them for added spice (lol). You can read my full review here.
Cole Haan Waterproof Booties – I don’t know why we didn’t have cute waterproof ankle boots sooner. Out of all the ones featured in the sale, these were my favorite. Sleek and simple so they’ll go with everything. Plus they are also Cole Haan, so you know that they’ll be super comfortable.
