Amazon Prime Day (…and Target Day and Walmart Day)

affordable amazon gift guide 2019

Happy Amazon Prime Day! It’s Amazon’s Black Friday but normally it would be in the summer except Covid caused it to be pushed back. But this year it’s a little different. No Amazon isn’t doing anything differently but their competitors are.

Not to be outdone, Target is having their “Deal Days”  and Walmart is having their “Big Sale Event though Thursday. Funny how that happened. Anyways it’s a lot of online shopping so can we all agree it’s basically like Cyber Monday but without the long weekend?

It actually might be nice for us as the consumers because if something sells out on one site, you can check the others because there is a lot of crossovers. Anyways, let’s just get into it.

Favorite Amazon Products

I’ve mentioned before that we are the only family in the Seattle metro region who don’t have Amazon Prime. We actually canceled our Amazon Prime membership several years ago when we found that it was just too easy to purchase items, which is of course the point of having Amazon Prime. That being said, we still shop on Amazon. These are some of my favorite Amazon purchases to date.

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite – I gave both Andrew and my father Kindles this year and they love them. My dad had one of the original models that we updated this year. I gave Andrew one for his birthday and he’s been loving it. He says it has really increased the amount of time he’s spent reading. You also have the option to pay an extra $20 and they’ll remove all the ads.

Bissel Steam Mop – I’ve become an evangelist for this steam mop. It’s amazing. I’ve been using it weekly since we got it and I still have nothing bad to say. It’s cheaper on Walmart but it is also available (in a slightly different model) on Amazon.

Instant Pot – I love and use our pressure cooker almost every day. I make beans, soup, rice, risotto, mashed potatoes, and much more using it. Seriously, type in your favorite meal plus instant pot into Google and you’ll find something.

Revlon Volumizing Hair Dryer and Styler – I haven’t used my regular hair dryer since I got this little device. Who doesn’t want a salon looking blowout at home? I’ve had mine for almost three years and it’s still going strong.

Yeti Mugs and Tumblers – Andrew and I are both obsessed with our Yeti cups. Andrew has the mug and I have the tumbler. The mug is ideal for hot drinks and the 32 oz tumbler is how I keep track of how much water I’m drinking throughout the day.

Other items on Amazon Prime

  • All the Amazon devices are on sale. That means Kindles, Fire Tablets, Alexa speakers, and Ring Doorbells are all on sale. If you are already planning for holiday shopping, now would be a good time to pick up those for gifts.
  • Speaking of Amazon brands. They have expanded their in-house brand clothing, Daily Ritual, and I’ve heard some really good things. Especially about the loungewear cause you know #2020.
  • I’ve been super curious about the Dyson Airwraps. They are stupid expensive but they have a little discount going on right now.
  • We’ve been reducing all our single-use plastics and products over the past couple of years. These baggies are a great place to start if you are trying to be more environmentally friendly at home.

Favorite Walmart Big Sale Products

I just started using Walmart’s online platform over the summer and I’m pretty impressed. They have definitely gone out of their way to be competitive against Amazon. To that point, they just launched Walmart+ last week, which is their alternative to Amazon Prime. For $98/year or $12/month, you get unlimited free shipping, free deliveries, and fuel points.

I have purchased a few things off Walmart over Amazon because they had better pricing so that’s one thing to look for this week. If you see something great on Amazon, check to see if Walmart has it for a better price and vice versa.

Ok let’s look at a few of the Walmart Big Sale Event deals

Dyson Cordless Vaccum – This is on sale for $199! This is the exact model that I have and love. We use ours every single day. Honestly, what were we doing using corded vacuums for so long?

Bissel Steam Mop – I’ve become an evangelist for this steam mop. It’s amazing. I’ve been using it weekly since we got it and I still have nothing bad to say. It’s cheaper on Walmart but is also available (in a slightly different model) on Amazon.

Instant Pot – I love and use our pressure cooker almost every day. I make beans, soup, rice, risotto, mashed potatoes, and much more using it. Seriously, type in your favorite meal plus instant pot into Google and you’ll find something. If you don’t mind the floral pattern, this is a great deal on an Instant Pot. They are normally closer to $100.

Hunter Boots – These boots almost never go on sale but both the tall Original Gloss and the short Original Gloss are both on sale! Here’s my in-depth review is you need help with sizing and fit.

Favorite Target Deal Day Products

Not going to lie, I’m not super familiar with Target Circle (aka Target version of Prime). Unlike Prime, it’s a free membership that gives you extra savings either online or via the app in-store. I try to minimize my Target shopping because oy it adds up quickly. What Target does best, in my very humble opinion, is baby products, clothing, home decor, and of course their in-store shopping experience. Here are some of my favorites from Target.
