My Favorite (and Not Boring) Workouts

CARDIO (3-4 days a week)

Summer/Fall – Jogging
My cardio routine tends to alternate with the seasons. When it is nice enough to jog outside, that is my primary form of cardio. It’s easy to build up the endurance for running and all you need are a pair of running shoes.
Winter/Spring – Spin
During the winter (rainy) months when I don’t really want to be jogging outside and treadmills are incredibly boring, I like taking spin classes. They are pretty much the best way to burn calories. Talk about bang for your buck! On average a 45 minute class can burn between 400-600 calories!
Here in Seattle there are two places that I love to go for spin classes: Tricycle Fitness and FlyWheel. Tricycle Fitness has a variety of classes including my favorite, Cycle-Fit, where cycling is broken up with strengthening exercises. FlyWheel is straight spin class. Every class is a killer workout with great music and great instructors that push you to get out of your own head. FlyWheel is in 12 U.S. cities, so if there is one near you, I highly recommend you check it out!

STRENGTH (2-3 days a week)
Pilates
I was REALLY into pilates for a while to the point where I almost got teaching certification. After about a year not practicing, I have been getting back into my pilates routine and it feels so good. But in a hurting kind of way.
There are two places that I have been going to get my pilates on: Inspire and Young’s Pilates. Inspire gives great all-in-one classes. It’s pilates and cardio all in one. You go through a series of strengthening exercises that leave you sweating and I love it! Young’s Pilates is another great studio if you like classic pilates practice. They really make sure that your form in on point which gives great results.
Yoga (1-2 days a week)
I like to practice yoga at least once a week for it’s strengthening, energizing, and relaxing properties. Depending on the class you can really get a new outlook on your day. Whether you take a class in the morning and leave full on energy and a great outlook for the day or if you take a class in the evening to unwind and relax, yoga is always a great option.
I have two favorite options for yoga in Seattle are Strala Seattle and Core Power Yoga. Strala Seattle is one of the bests that I have found in the city and highly recommend them to everyone! No sleepy meditation music in these classes. They play fun upbeat music and will have you upside down within your first couple classes. Strala is another affiliate studio that is all over the country so you should see if there is one in your area! CorePower Yoga is the go-to for heated yoga classes. I generally only attend in the deepest depths of winter but they offer classes year round. Not to worry if you are new to yoga, CorePower has classes for beginners that will teach you all the basics!
ABS (4-5 days a week)
I am always working on getting a better core. Ab exercises are great because you can do them anywhere. You don’t need a gym or a fancy class with an instructor telling you what to do. I like the exercises in this video and will pick four or five exercises out of the video to do in a set. I tend to do 4 sets of 25 each.
What is your favorite way to stay active and fit?
