Guys! I’m in love…with overalls!
How come nobody told me overalls were so awesome?! I’ve been on the fence for a while but you can tell all your friends and enemies that Ana Luiza is on the bandwagon.
However for us shorter gals, this trend can pose a problem. The baggy boyfriend nature of overalls just doesn’t do us short girls any favors. With my taller friends, I see them wearing oversized and baggier clothing and it hangs off them so perfectly, yet with my more petite frame, it just doesn’t work.
But does that mean we shorter girls are just not going to get to partake in some trends? Of course not! We’ll find ways to make the best trends work for us! As far as overalls are concerned, I think I’ve cracked the code. Just keep reading for a short girl’s guide to overalls!
Why wear overalls?
Can you say hello comfort?! That is one of the biggest reasons to wear overalls. They are insanely comfy while still being denim! It’s actually pretty incredible. It also doesn’t hurt that they are so gosh darn cute too.
While you may think these are just a blast from the past, with the proper accessories and styling, overalls can also become a weekend staple here in 2017. Seriously though, stripes and overalls = a match made in heaven!
3 Tips for Short Girls
1) OPT FOR SKINNY OR FITTED STYLES
For all adults who jump on the overalls bandwagon but especially us shorter gals, it’s important to remind people that yes, we are women and not children. This means a skinny or more fitted style. Remember the shapeless overalls we wore as children and in the 90’s? Yeah, just think the opposite of that!
This pair that I’m wearing are advertised as a boyfriend style but they have a zipper that gives is a more fitted shape through the hips. Another thing that really helps, is to avoid any significant drooping or bagging in the chest. Like I mentioned in my previous post, this adds visual weight and draws the eye downwards, which is the opposite of what us short girls want!
2) CUFF IT
I’m a huge advocate for the cuffed denim look and you’ll almost always find me wearing my jeans cuffed. The same goes here. Adding a rolled/folded cuff to your overalls helps eliminate the bagging that is (practically) inevitable when wearing overalls.
3) ADD HEELS
Adding some height never hurts when wearing styles that are a little baggier and visually heavier so popping on a pair heels isn’t a bad idea. But don’t think you have to walk around all day in what’s supposed to be a comfortable outfit. Opt for thick chunky heels or wedges to get the height without the pain of stilletos. Not sure how this would look? Check out this post to see an example!
If you’re a reader here then you probably know (or can tell) that I am a #ClassicStyleGirl who loves dresses, skirts, and the color pink. These aren’t normally things that are associated with overalls. But I’m here to tell you that overalls are no longer just for tomboys but for anyone who wants to be comfortable no matter how short or tall!
Until next time,
Ana Luiza
